Apparently there was some trouble in the Wellie yesterday before the game with some Charlton supporters involved. Must have kicked off after we left for a drink in the clubhouse.

Started when someone spilt beer over someone else apparently. My dad, a gashead, and his best mate, a Charlton fan (bit of a renuinion and both in their 70s), did try to appeal for calm but fists flying by that stage. Luckily had left with the kids by then to pick up Coventry tickets. Didn’t see it myself so happy to be corrected.

There was certainly something expected after the game by the time I walked passed the place after the game.

It was very strictly home fans only after the game and a bit of an edge outside. We did try to get out Charlton friends in and the female bouncer was ok with it until the my dad’s friend, being a grumpy old bugger, somehow talked her out of it!

They did try to take the Tote once around 1980. I remember one of the few times there was trouble at Twerton was against Charlton. About six of them came in the enclosure in front of the stand and tried picking on a middle aged man minding his own business. He clearly didn’t want trouble but they kept on and on and in the end a fight broke out. They ended up getting a right hiding (people were making their way from the Popular Side to join in).and the police stood by and watched, letting it go on for a couple of minutes before dragging them out and arresting them. The ring leader was a right horrible little git (not representative of the majority of Charlton fans I would imagine). Strange incident.

There was no trouble before the game in Wellie, BUT something strange did occur - about 4 police officers shuffled in behind the bar - was that for a chat ? or to stuff some sausage rolls down their gobs, I don't know ?

Don't know if it was the same game but there was trouble with Charlton at Twerton on last day of the 1991/92 season. I was a safety steward at the time & it kicked off at the Bristol end, partly because there seemed to be an unwritten rule that if we hadn't had any trouble at Twerton in a season, then there had to be trouble at the last home game, be it instigated by home or away (city 1990, WBA 1991...). And partly because it was a biggish crowd & the segregation bit that was usually empty, was being used.
