Well i can only report back how I saw the game and the only positive I can make is that we should have won but the overall performance was disgraceful. What on earth do we do in training? Corners going almost straight out the other side, back four that if they get any deeper they will be either in the Blackthorn or the other end and a midfield that stand around just in front of our defenders waiting for the short ball that never comes then please don't get me going on the strikers.
To be truthful Forest Green were bloody awful both in terms of ability and football but have to say on todays performance Daryl Clarke must seriously look at the football he is promoting. If it isnt him promoting the long ball then perhaps he should have deep discussions with his players !!
Mildenhall 5 A fantastic save in the first half but the goal would never have occurred if he had dealt with a feeble free kick properly and his distribution throughout was poor.
Leadbitter 5.5 A reasonable game ruined by poor control on the sending off. Looks really good going forward but has to decide when he makes runs and when he distributes the ball. Reminds me very much of Smith in the early days with us.
Trotman 6.5 A good strong game but it worries me how deep he plays because quite a few times he plays a few opponents onside when if he and the rest of the back four pushed up we would have achieved two things- first we would have got plenty of offsides including the goal and secondly it would have meant that the opponents forwards would have needed to use up energy getting onside.
Parkes 5 Very poor distribution and at times looked very flat footed and allowed players he should have been marking to move away from him, receive the ball and turn him. Personally would have dropped him for the next game if leadbitter was not suspended.
Brown 6.5 One of the few players to play up to their usual standard
Gosling 5.5 Definitely has ability but for me plays too deep and doesn't push up enough..but I could say that about most of the team.
Mansell 6 Fighting a lone battle in the midfield and really needs somebody alongside him who can actually play the game and a Manager who promotes a more attack minded side.
Clarke 3 Did he play today? Sorry but does not have the ability to play regular football and at best should be on the bench as he gets totally lost to the game
Monkhouse 2 Diodn't last very long and based on what he did when he was on we didn't miss anything. Is not the answer out wide but if we decided to play football he might be ok in the middle.
Cunnington 4 Seems to be getting worse and also is made to look even worse by our failure to vary the service or find him a partner who plays somewhere near him.
Taylor 4 How much longer can we afford to play a player firing blanks? Had two decent chances (in fact more than decent) but yet again has cost us points by failing to take them. Can't say I support the love in with him because IMO strikers are rated on their goals and taylor does not have a goal in him.
Harrison 5 Ran about and did a couple of decent runs but service to him was poor so its very difficult to actually mark him
White Not worth providing a mark as by the time he was used it was too late.
Martin 4 When he first signed I thought he looked a good player but i am afraid after another poor display I am hoping we replace him in January. Maybe it is mainly down to the way Clarke plays but he needs to get further up the pitch and also take responsibility or perhaps he needs shooting lessons!
Refs Well we had two today and Hardly worth a point between them. Not saying they lost us the game as we did that ourselves but have to be honest and saying Conference referees are the worst around. Thought the second half referee had to be better than the first half but actually I think he was worse!!
DC - 3 I am getting worried with the last three or four performances that he has got the Ward syndrome with us playing deep from the first minute until the last and playing a lot of hoofball which is bloody stupid when you have most of your team back and boot it up to nobody. We played into a very limited ability wise Forest green teams hands because they were physically stronger than us and little else. In truth even down to ten men we were the better team and had we taken our chances would have won even playing as poorly as we did.
To conclude-Is this a blip or are we not going to get any better? I am really not sure but came away from the game today feeling that despite a long unbeaten run we look a poor side with very little direction from the Management and maybe we are lucky to be as high as we are!!
