Disagree with the OP. I don't think a wholesale clearout is required. By and large, this squad of players is good enough to maintain our League 1 status, provided we tinker slightly by injecting some creativity. We have a solid enough defence but cannot rely on JCH digging us out of trouble all the time. Others need to chip in with goals, but if nothing's being created... I argee, but is that really all that we should be aiming for as a club?...just to maintain our L1 status? If so you then you are correct. But I dont use the state of the old girl thats called the mem as a reason why we can't grow as a club season after season. The squad we have had this season are where they deserve to be.Now it looks that they won't go down, but they are not good enough as JCH has papered over the gaps in a poor side since January. If not for JCH we would be where Bradford are or below them. We keep the same team even with JCH and we are going down next season. Unfortunately yes, I think League 1 status is the absolute height of our potential at the moment. It's not just the stadium, although that is of course a major issue that prevents our progression. The training ground us also key, as is the money that funds all these improvements. We may be able to have a good season and get into the Championship, but unless we can sustain that level, which because of the shortcomings described above, we have no chance of doing, what is the point? We simply can't afford to sustain Championship football. People have been pointing at City's spend on another thread, and they're not even big spenders at that level. I wish it weren't so, but in my opinion, League 1 is the top level we can sustain and I do believe we have the players to do that, with a fee tweaks rather than a mass clear out.

With the negative way GC sets us up week-in week-out I can only see us struggling heavily again, unless he manages to work wonders in the window. And if we somehow still go down, I would absolutely sack him as there is no way that he can lead a promotion charge with his unadventurous tactics. Whether you like the football or the so-called system I find it amazing that some people are utterly ignoring the results. No, other teams outside the playoff places are not perfect or so much better than us. No, we haven't been lucky to win / draw games. Football is f**king simple. You hit it in a goal more times than others. That gets you 3 points. You can’t argue that his tactics after we went ahead weren’t appalling. The equaliser was inevitable from the moment he left us with one up front with no way to relieve the pressure. We were fortunate that JCH is f**king magic.

32 points from 21 games translates into 71 points over a complete season, hardly odds on for the drop but I do agree,we need 4-5 new players, not just squad players but players who would improve the first eleven. Credit to the entire squad, they have dug deep and battled for 90+ minutes in every game but there are clearly some who are punching above their weight, GC has said the backing is there and he intends to get the business done early, that would make a change from the 'last chance saloon' signings we've seen in recent seasons but action speaks louder than words, over to you GC!

Football is a bit more complex than that though. Bradford were desperate. That desperation helped them score an equaliser because they were willing to throw men forward. The ref also helped them. Those exact circumstances are hard to plan against. But, their willingness to throw men forward resulted in (a) fatigue, (b) niaivity and (c) space. THAT is what led to our third, not just JCH. This reductionism to only crediting the scorer of a goal is frankly half brained. Added wildcard = did players actually do what GC may have actually told them to do??
