Lets not beat about the bush. Todays football against a team who were mediocre at best can only be described as crap and that is being kind. It was clear to see why Rochdale have conceded so many goals especially in the first half when they tried hard to give us some gifts but we couldn't even take them when put on the plate. How Sercombe missed that chance in the first half I shall never know as the goalkeeper made no real effort whatsoever to close the angle. If the last two games had been Jon Clarke-Harris's first two games we would be thinking we had signed another Stefan Payne. I came away from the game feeling that we are destined for all the results to go against us and be relegated on the final day- it was that bad.
GC told us the football would not be pretty- how right he was but there can be no excuse whatsoever for letting a terrible team like Rochdale have the freedom of the park in their half. I am worried that even if we do manage to stay up what will we be watching next season because I can tell you that at the present time I shall be pleased when the next two games are out of the way and pray that we have enough points to stay up. It has been a difficult season especially at the Mem where the number of good games can be counted on one hand.
I could go on and on and be Mr Angry over a complete lack of any football ability today but will give marks and a very limited comment because the team don't deserve time wasted on giving a full report.
Bonham 6 Kicking terrible but general game ok.Had little to do. Clarke J.5 Doesn't look a footballer and gave the wide player far too much room. Slow and predictable Lockyer. 5 Back to awful standard of passing but OK most of the time. Craig 6 Did most things ok and a good performer until he is in space with the ball at his feet and then it all goes wrong. Holmes Dennis 6.5 MOM At least has some semblance of talent on the ball. Man of match is not something to be proud of today. Upson 5.5 Tried hard , at least has the ability to pass a ball but the way GC sets us up means that we have very few options Clarke O 5.5 Did OK but nowhere near Saturdays performance level Sercombe 5 Did a lot of good things but missed a great chance where it was gifted to him and easier to score than drag it wide but the effort summed us up. Rodman 5 OK in patches.Tried hard but was not given a great deal of service. Nichols 2 Mr Offside. Doesn't look like scoring a goal in a million years. The thing is that even myself at 64 could score a tap in over a season just by being at some time in the right place. Couldn't strike a match. Clarke Harris 3 Last two games has been terrible but thankfully his previous 11 games have been great
Jakubiak 5 At least he can run with the ball but must look at Nicholls and think he must be a bloody crap player to be fourth choice/ Reilly nole. Did ok whilst he was on
Crowd 6 Quite noisy but like most of this season at the Mem let down by both the players and the tactics or lack of them. Ref 4 He thought he was the star of the show but can only suggest he looks up the rules of the game. Rochdale 5 Thought their kit was woeful as was their team. The fact they are now above us just sums up how bad we were because their passing was far worse than ours and I thought they looked every bit a team who have struggled all season. Certainly did nothing to deserve the win.
So its on to another long trek next Saturday where we rarely get anything and surely our only hope is that we can return with a point based on recent games. UTG

A 5 for Rodman is extremely generous. I personally thought he was one of the worst players on the pitch today.

I think GC needs to decide how he wants to play and stick to it. If he wants to play a diamond midfield then Sercombe has a part to play as the top of the diamond (although personally I’d play Nichols there) whereas if he wants to play a traditional 4-4-2 then he needs to be brave and admit Sercombe has no role to play and pair Kelly and THD together.

Thanks for the report Steve.. I actually have to give Rochdale a bit of credit in that despite shipping 83 goals they found the resolve to win the two Easter games in succession beating teams around them Wycombe and us, and keeping clean sheets.
That doesn't make them world beaters but it indicates they can dig in which we failed to match today...

I think the report was fair. But i thought clarke-harris was isolated and lacking support. Rodman has hardly played and he looked rusty,he needs good early ball on the deck but he is in the wrong team for that. I reckon sinclair is left out in case he breaks rank and actually tries to win the ball back!

How many games this season have we played well, dominated and deserved to win? Very few in my opinion.
We're actually playing worse football under GC than we were with DC in charge. Our league position has really only improved thanks to JCH and a couple of wonder goals from OC.
We were terrible all over the pitch today. Couldn't string 2 passes together or win a header in either box.
The front 2 were equally poor but the midfield appears to have so little quality / creativity they were feeding off scraps. We failed to create any chances with our only real opening coming from a Rochdale mistake.
Playing like that I wonder how on Earth we've got to 50 points. I think we can consider ourselves very lucky to have hopefully accumulated enough points to survive.
However, there needs to be major changes in the summer to avoid a similar struggle next season.
5.5 Bonham 5.0 J.Clarke 5.5 Lockyer 5.5 Craig 6.0 Holmes Dennis 4.5 Rodman 3.0 Upson 5.5 O.Clarke 5.5 Sercombe 4.0 Nichols 4.5 Clarke-Harris

Not quite sure why people think James Clarke should be retained next year. Never a league 1 footballer in a million years.
"Doesn't look like a footballer" "Slow and predictable"
Pretty much nailed it Steve.

I reckon the very energetic prematch warm up took too much out of the players yesterday. Is an intensive 25 minute workout really required ahead of a 90 minute match in 25 degree temperatures? Shouldn't affect poor passing and decision making but perhaps a small factor yesterday?

I'll never understand why the OP marks down Locks for poor passing but always gives Craig a higher mark when his own distribution does little other than scare the pigeons and test the reflexes of fans at the back of the East Stand.

Unless there's a rule I'm unaware of, how on earth did the ref miss that passback when the keeper missed the ball? He must have known he'd made a clanger there

Tom Nichols was on the touchline "discussing" it with the lino as was Tom Lokyer with the ref. They didn't seem to be waving them away (a usual sign that the officials realise they have missed something!), both seemed willing to explain. They seemed to be very sure of their explanations judging by the body language - I just wish i could have heard what they were saying. All I could think of at the time was it either took a touch, it wasn't a foot, or there wasn't the intention. Looking at the replay it should have been pretty clear to the officials that none of these were the case.

Absolutely. A classic case of the officials losing focus and concentration and not picking up on what actually happened. Clear pass back which would have given us a very real goal scoring opportunity. Terrible non decision.

Sometimes you have to feel for refs not seeing absolutely everything on the pitch, but that decision was mystifying to say the least. Oh, and I have competed your last sentence for you.

They should be made to provide an explanation to the fans via the media as well.
