No.idea if it is still a record, although would think there's every chance that it is.
What it is though is a timely reminder of just how far we have come in the last four years and, despite recent attempts by some to try to re-write our recent history, what a bloody good manager Darrell Clarke was for our club.
Yes, this has been a poor season and perhaps it was the right time to change, but at least we're stressing about Barnsley rather than Alfreton now!

Think it is. Didn't we also match our record league win that day ?

It's still the record attendance for a regular season fixture and we have the Conference overall record of 47,029 for the playoff final. The 61,589 that watched us against Shrewsbury in the League Two play-off final is also a record attendance.

I'm not ashamed to admit I still miss DC. I appreciate the job GC has done as I fully expected us to go down, but DC was in charge of some of the happiest years I've ever known as a Gashead. What great memories we'll keep though. I wonder if Tranmere beat the attendance record when they were down there but I have no idea on that. EDIT: didn't see pirate's post!

I'd imagine the Conference regular season record will be broken should Notts County fall through through the trap door. They had over 15k against Cambridge at home earlier in the season, albeit the spike was due to admission being £2.

I don't know how to explain it, it feels like it isn't the same club in a way. It's very rare (despite being so sh**e at the end) that you just completely trust/support a manager no matter what. I've never understood the love affair of bringing back previous managers such as Holloway& Francis - but that's because I wasn't old enough to really remember the style of football (apart from the 2nd Francis season). Now we've had DC though, for the first time I completely understand why people would want them back. I have to admit that anytime we are without a manager, DC would be right at the top of my list to bring back (to all the haters - yes I know it wouldn't work out, but it's just my opinion)

The overlapping run and perfect cross from Mark McChrystal is one of the most criminally underrated moments in our history.

One wonders how we only had a 0-0 out of them in the reverse fixture that almost cost DC his job. All I remember is being camped in their box for 90mins and not being able to convert.
The 7-0 was an absolute joy though. A Jake Gosling stunner to get things going!

The 7-0 was an absolute joy though. A Jake Gosling stunner to get things going! I remember an Alfreton fan telling me on a forum that despite losing that game (and getting relegated?) that it was one of his most enjoyable games/experiences in his life. It's always stuck with me as one of the most enjoyable quotes. Roughly he said: "So ignore the 7-0 score line, what a day. Going to a club of that stature, beautiful sunny day where thousands of people flock the streets, bars, fish & chip shops. Blue & white quarters everywhere, people singing in the streets before the game - traffic at a standstill. Flags & scarf stands everywhere- just a huge build up. Then the game, the atmosphere was absolutely electric. The roar when that first goal went in, I've never experienced anything like it. 12,000 fans at the same time with the crescendo of 'YYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEE' and then going absolutely mental in all parts of the ground. Then goodnight Irene deafening us straight after, songs echoing from different stands - everyone in full party" Looking back on that day - despite Barnet winning, what a day that was

One Old Boy a lifelong Alfreton fan was very emotional about coming 'to such a big club'.Everything is relative I suppose. He loved the day and didn't ever dream ,he said,he'd see his team playing at such a big ground. The scoreline didn't matter. When we went to their place it was like going to Keynsham town F.C. Bit like Sunderland,Bolton etc coming to us I suppose.

I remember watching on sky sports news, Darryl Duffy wasn't it? They were in absolute meltdown on there at the time

No one associated with Rovers would’ve got out of Elland Road alive, had we taken at least a point.

That Conference season was unreal in hindsight. I was at uni in Southampton at the time so went to the Eastleigh game - amazing to think we were playing a team like that in a ground like that when I only four years prior we were at St. Mary's itself.

I was there and that's exactly how I viewed the game. Me and Scrappydoo would have come in for special beatings cos the silly sod wore his Man Utd puffer jacket over the top of his Rovers shirt. It may have been a black puffer jacket but you couldn't mistake the badge on it. Let's just say the Leeds fans that spotted it let us know that they weren't best pleased. And I had parked in the home car park!! I was glad we lost so their attention was diverted elsewhere after the game.
