That would be a great move for him. Another relegation fight on his hands after being linked with QPR? It’s an ok move but not great I see it as another Championship team, close to where he is already settled, a signing on fee and he keeps his chance of representing Wales next summer at the Euros.

Done deal apparently with a 3 year contract, I wonder if he's negotiated another relegation get out clause, a bottom 6 side must now be his level Can’t be his level. He hasn’t been successful at that level yet. He never will be either.

My memory can be stupid too, I was surprised however that he was pretty much ever present in a line up in the championship last season. Tom gave absolutely everything for us in his time here but does anyone on here really think he’s championship quality ? I Loved the way he threw himself in front of everything and got his teeth smashed out in the conference fighting to get us back up but Tom Lockyer isn’t a championship Centre half. Maybe one day he will be but he never looked it for us , didn’t for charlton last season , will probably go to big club in league 1, Ipswich , Pompey Sunderland etc and he’ll be an average league 1 centre half for them because that’s what he is. He played for Wales because wales are seriously lacking central defenders of quality , it doesn’t make him a top defender. Thats pretty much how I see it. Max Ehmer is a better defender, and better with the ball at his feet, i.e distribution, and he's 3 years older, yet only played 1 game at Championship level back in 2014. How often have you watched ehmer play?

I liked Lockyer, because he was a whole hearted player for us. But if you watch closely he always gives the other teams attacking players a split second to turn and shoot, which isn’t good enough at championship level... I think we have better now..

I just can't see Steve Evans letting such a good defender leave so easily, even with CV19 causing issues, although now all seems overdone given even Southend seem to have survived.

His chairman wouldn't let him re-sign any of his out-of-contract players. Also, considering the out-of-contract players we've lost recently, it seems a bit strange to use that as evidence they're not that good.

Do you think they'd have let JCH leave on a free if he'd been one of their players? They clearly decided he was replaceable, it'll be a typical Rovers signing if he's just gone past his best, just like the FB we signed from Millwall! Anyway next week seems a good opportunity for Ehmer to show how good a signing he will be given Ipswich sound in a right mess, they sound there for the taking next week: www.eadt.co.uk/sport/taylor-on-town-loss-to-cambridge-1-6814681

Could do with them selling Flynn Downes

What point are you trying to make ? He says he’s seen him play , what’s the issue ? I think its a case of familiarity breeds contempt. Lockyer was a good player for us through 2 promotions and played a decent role in establishing us in league one. he has nothing to prove to this rovers supporter. Ehmer is a 28 year old free transfer from gillingham to bristol rovers who will get my respect when he has earned it. I fail to see how anyone can say he is a better player than lockyer right now.

Lockyer's distribution was shocking for an International player, if Ehmer is as good as fans claim then he may well be a better footballer.

It looked ok when I’ve seen him playing for Charlton and Wales. Like most of our defenders he struggled to find a teammate because we had too many players who couldn’t control a pass, struggled to understand the movement required to find space or lacked confidence and chose to hide. Franz Beckenbauer would have struggled to have a good pass completion percentage playing in the teams Lockyer did with us.
