I thought I'd share the stats for GC's reign so far. I have taken the final league table and compared it to the table immediately after DC's last game - the 4-0 home defeat by Doncaster. The tables below show the points earned from the games played since DC left (admittedly 7 teams have played a game more than the 25 that Rovers have but it's pretty comparable) and also the average number of points earned per game. Rovers finish 8th in each table. Would everyone be happy if GC repeated this form over an entire season and we finished 8th next season?

Not playing the way we have.
I know football is about winning but it's supposed to be entertaining as well.

Anyone who says they wouldn’t be happy with an 8th place season finish is lying through their teeth. If you walk out of the Mem after a home win unhappy with the manner in which we achieved that win, you need your head seeing too.

Good post.
Answer to the question is yes. If we were to finish 8th I would say that Graham Coughlin has got it right. I hope that happens.
The trouble is, can it be sustained over the longer period? Can JCH keep up his level of goalscoring? Can we replace Lockyer? All big questions.

I think we will see a more open team next season, smaller squad better quality.

I’d bite your hand off for 8th next season!
Tbh, with the whole sale changes were about to go through - I’d take safety again tbh

Can JCH keep up his level of goalscoring? Can we replace Lockyer? All big questions. Answer to the first one I would say is no chance. JCH averaged about a goal every 5 games in his career until he joined us. I’d take a goal every three which I think he’ll do. The Lockyer one is doable. I don’t think he’s championship quality , main reasons are he isn’t that strong or tall and can’t pass the ball. Good league 1 defender hope he goes on to do well but similar in my thoughts to Ellis at the time of leaving , not good enough for the championship and can’t see him making it there as a regular. Cogs has done amazing well but he’s got a mountain to climb to achieve 8th next season. Massive changes in the squad coming up for next season and at this point I think we’ll finish somewhere between 1st and 24th

If you said play offs then maybe but 8th no.
I'd rather us finish 11th and play (or attempt to play decent football) than finish a few places higher and have to watch us grind out points each week.

With our stadium and financial situation just staying in lg1 is a success... Unless the stadium issue is resolved its lg2 again

With our stadium and financial situation just staying in lg1 is a success... Unless the stadium issue is resolved its lg2 again I think we can stay in league 1 at the Mem with crowds of 7-9 thousand. Getting relegated would be punching below our belt. Mid table is par. Promotion is overachieving. If we get relegated with our income then it’s because either we underachieved with a mid table budget ( see this season, very nearly) or our budget is cut and doesn’t reflect our income ( poor management at board level). Anything can happen , I’ve got no idea what will.

Pretty impressive turn round by GC and he deserves far more plaudits than he appears to be getting.Following the legend that is DC was never going to be easy, couple that with one or two 'golden balls 'who had there noses put out a bit ,cue , outrage on this forum,he has and will find it very hard to win every one over, far as i am concerned its a big heartfelt thanks from me for the job he has done and hope he can assemble a squad that will challenge in the top half next season, and this is from someone who was devastated when DC left us. Managers in all walks of life have to make unpopular decisions sometimes for the good of the club/company and GC has shown he aint afraid to make those decisions what ever favorites fans might have,up the Rovers.

Graham Coughlan has done very well but until he produces a side capable of playing better football, rightly or wrongly there will always be doubters. Yesterday was evidence that they can play, and I very much hope that the more attractive style on display yesterday is a sign of things to come.
It will be tough to stay up next season but it doesn't have to be done by playing hoof ball. Teams have played good football in this league and stayed up comfortably, including Rovers in 2016-17 and 2017-18.
A creative midfielder, a goalscorer and some pace in the side will go a long way to removing some of the doubts. These have to be priority over the summer.
Oh, and a goalkeeper would be a good idea too!

I'm happy with eighth only when nothing better is possible. At the start of every season going up as undefeated champions and winning the FA Cup are my only goals.

Is this the right place to say thanks GC? He’s done a great job and tbf to the owners they made a good call to do what they did. Loved DC but it’s a results business and he wasn’t getting them. Of the clubs who went down:
Bradford, changed manger twice on Sept and Feb/March, didn’t get it right at the first change. Owners made a poor call first time. Scunthorpe, changed to McCall had a good effect, brought poorly in January and then owners sacked him. They were safe and dropped into it the second time. I’d say owners panicked when sacking McCall. Owners made a poor call. Walsall, owners changed too late. But as he was a Walsall legend probably harder to sack. When they had a good scorer, Cook, bad to go down. Owners closer to ours but probably left it too late. Plymouth, climbed their way out of it then dropped back in and sacked manager at a stupid time. Poor call by the owners perhaps they should have done it earlier given the fact that Adams was a complete
The pattern, if there is one, change at a time that gives the new manager a chance. AFCW, us, Shrewsbury, Rochdale (though that was late as well), or stick with your manager through bad times, Wycombe. Southend probably wouldn’t have survived had Sunderland had something to play for but that was their luck. Overall our owners and new manager made all the right calls and we survived. Doubt if they’ll get much credit but I reckon they should. UTG!
