Everyone needs to stop crying like little children, he’s moved there because of location, get on with it, on to the next. GC’s signings have been pretty good so far, so let’s see what he can pull off now Actually he didn’t, nothing to do with location he actually wanted to sign for us but he wasn’t happy with what he was being offered here. Didn’t really want to say anything but there you go. Let’s move on now. Care to share how you know this?

I can see us signing another Championship loanee - which IMO is the way to go. Bonham did us proud last season and he was 3rd choice at Brentford and clearly not particularly rated there. There will be Championship clubs looking at our league to offload their 2/3 choice keepers to get game time. True and the two loanees before jack were Roos and Lumley and both are now number ones in the championship. Plus when you loan a player you are not liable for all of the wages

If we are looking for an experienced option then Birmingham keeper David Stockdale might be available. Spent loan spells at Coventry, Wycombe and Southend United last season. Has 32 clean sheets in 69 games in League's One/Two and 72 clean sheets from 232 games in the Championship. In the Prem, Leicester City's Denmark U21 international goalkeeper Daniel Iverson is looking for another loan this season, this time at a higher level. He kept 16 clean sheets for Oldham last season. www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/leicester-citys-daniel-iversen-hopes-2919152Others I'd like are Nathan Trott (West Ham), Arthur Okonkwo (Arsenal), Marek Stech (Luton), Marcus Dewhurst (Sheffield United) or Aaron Ramsdale (Bournemouth).

Really don't think loan is the way to go long term. We need a GK to build a squad around.
Loan GKs are really hit and miss & can ruin a season. I'd rather have an experienced GK who's played at this level who we can build the defence around & build a more long term option, rather than changing season after season

And before that we had Lumley.

Depressing blow - I hope the Gaffer has someone else lined up, we are looking more that a tad ragged right now.

I wish JB well, he put in a great stint in for BRFC last season. Personally, l hope GC brings in a permanent keeper with a wealth of experience; time for the chief scout to earn his money.

I don't think location has much to do with it nowadays. Most club squads are made up of players from all over the country, and in the leagues above ours, from all over the world. I'm really disappointed that he chose Gillingham over us. If it had been a Championship side, I could understand it, but this mystifies me. He's from Stevenage, which is 70 miles and 90 minutes from Gillingham. A difficult journey round the M25 car park. Bristol is hardly any more difficult to get to. Yet again we've lost a gem. I know he was never ours in the first place, but I would have thought we could make an offer to stay permanently at a place he's done so well, and not be tempted away by a club who at best are no better than us, and probably a smaller operation overall. I can only imagine that we made him a competitive offer, but he sees us as going nowhere in the next few years. GC needs to unearth another diamond now, which I hope he will, but it's a shame he even needs to do that. Granted it's not around the corner for him but Bristol to Stevenage is 3 hours easily. Personally I think location has a massive amount to do with it. I get offers to work away now and again but unless the money is ridiculous and it's fairly short term I'd much rather just go home every night. Perhaps he's got a family he wants to see rather than living in a house share with other players? Worked in Stevenage for 3 years back in the 80's and was a regular commute of 3-4 Hours for me

Before that we had Chapman, Roos, Daniels, Etherdige, Rhys Evans, Forster, Gough, Nicholls, Poke & Walker. The list of poor loan GKs is much larger in recent years than the list of successful ones. Even many of those went on to be successful but were awful/poor with us.

Only place I've ever seen an 89p shop! Said it all.

Plus when you loan a player you are not liable for all of the wages Doesn't help us now though that they are first choice elsewhere, it's really time we replaced Mildenhall with an experienced Div 1 keeper who we can keep for at least a couple of seasons. Bonham excelled with us last season but he's performance at previous clubs was patchy.

They come to us very young for a goalkeeper and there are usually some bumps along the way in their development. A good keeper also has to have authority, which is tough when you’re just learning your trade. Of course we’d rather have a Bonham or a Lumley over a Smith, but the challenge should be to find a Parkin, Phillips or Mildenhall.

Subsidised wages, no committal. Of course they aren't all like that and some clubs will ask for a fee and 100% wages but I'd imagine there's a reason a lot of clubs use the loan market so heavily!

I'd take a 30 year old L1 experienced keeper on a 2+ year contract over another young loanee any day of the week I'm happy to have a loanee to provide competition, just not our 1st GK

He’s gone now, no point in worrying about it! f**k him, let’s just put 6 past Gillingham next year. How embarrassing for him would that be especially when dynamic Tom scores a couple. 👀
