He played a big part in us staying up last season so i wish him well. Gillingham are closer to home and more ambitious than rovers so who can blame him?

Disappointed but not the end of the world. Hope GC has someone else lined up and the eggs weren’t all in the Bonham basket.

Don't see the need for panic on the keeper front. We have offloaded Smith and Slocombe and would have been paying part of Bonham's wages. That in my book means that GC can look to bring in a decent keeper and money should not be an issue. You make it sound like we have a recent history of signing decent Div 1 goalies. Perhaps things will be different under GC/TW but under recent managers we've had shocking time with goalies. Fingers firmly crossed GC/TW have found a better a goalie than Bonham.

I for one am not panicking, let's give GC a bit of slack on this. True Bonham was excellent for us but 95% of the keepers we saw last season in our league looked pretty decent imho.

An absolute bantersaurus Rex was on here the other day saying he was going to sign on once back from a golf trip. What a muppet.

Disappointing because I'm sure GC was hoping he'd be our No.1 next season.
Our defensive record and many clean sheets were as big a part of our survival as JCH's goals and Bonham played a big part in that.
Maybe not irreplaceable but we'll do well to find better.
A little worrying that 2 players we wanted to keep and offered new deals have turned us down for Walsall and Gillingham.
The keeper is certainly one of the most important players on the pitch so hopefully GC can find someone of similar quality to tajke his place but that's no easy task.

Actually quite disappointed and worried by this, shame how we can’t compete with Gillingham after GC has publicly stated he wanted Bonham and thought a deal was close.
Hopefully all of the eggs aren’t in that basket. Lets go and get Newport or FGR number 1’s. Both impressed in the playoffs.

I like Bonham and would have preferred him to sign than not, but let’s not forget that last season he was in a side that played a deep defensive line, a stay-at-home RB & three defensive midfielders. I reckon I’d have kept a few clean sheets for us!

I don't think location has much to do with it nowadays. Most club squads are made up of players from all over the country, and in the leagues above ours, from all over the world.
I'm really disappointed that he chose Gillingham over us. If it had been a Championship side, I could understand it, but this mystifies me. He's from Stevenage, which is 70 miles and 90 minutes from Gillingham. A difficult journey round the M25 car park. Bristol is hardly any more difficult to get to.
Yet again we've lost a gem. I know he was never ours in the first place, but I would have thought we could make an offer to stay permanently at a place he's done so well, and not be tempted away by a club who at best are no better than us, and probably a smaller operation overall.
I can only imagine that we made him a competitive offer, but he sees us as going nowhere in the next few years.
GC needs to unearth another diamond now, which I hope he will, but it's a shame he even needs to do that.

Thought his form was going off a bit as the season went on. Not a great miss.

Ah well, he'd have ended up being terrible once he'd signed anyway.

Personally I think location has a massive amount to do with it. I get offers to work away now and again but unless the money is ridiculous and it's fairly short term I'd much rather just go home every night. Perhaps he's got a family he wants to see rather than living in a house share with other players?

Everyone needs to stop crying like little children, he’s moved there because of location, get on with it, on to the next. GC’s signings have been pretty good so far, so let’s see what he can pull off now

Didn’t really want to say anything but there you go. Let’s move on now.

Disappointed to hear this as he was very good for us and a good keeper is worth a little extra can't believe Gillingham have outbid us, but have to trust GC to find a diamond, plenty of options available.

I can see us signing another Championship loanee - which IMO is the way to go. Bonham did us proud last season and he was 3rd choice at Brentford and clearly not particularly rated there. There will be Championship clubs looking at our league to offload their 2/3 choice keepers to get game time.
