Now in the words of stapletongas I’m a wind up merchant. The truth is I’m not but I have never hidden my dislike on certain topics. Andy williams, Paul Trollope, Lines etc.
Now a very good friend of mine works at a lower league club (lower than Rovers) but a well respected club.
By all the accounts the fall out between CL And GC is not just a simple ‘I’m the boss and I don’t rate you.’
When DC left in December CL wanted to become part of the coaching side and be given the same sort of opportunities as Parinello, Mansell and Mildenhall. CL, apparently, was given some sort of assurance by DC this would happen in the summer. DC then left. GC obviously then took over and has put his own stamp on the club. Yes there was a fall out at the training ground and GC confined CL to the reserves and CL wasn’t always available for Development games as he thought he should be in the first team,
All the above ties in with GC last press conference about CL future when he kept referring to ‘what CL wants,
Doesn’t matter now I guess

Well, aside from the questionable source (I find it hard to believe that someone working for a different club would know the ins and outs of Rovers), I'd say IF my boss promised me a certain role and then that role was taken away from me through no fault of my own, I'd probably be a bit hacked off.
Look, no-one here knows or needs to know exactly what happened. There's probably fault on both sides and it's clear it's been handled very badly. Personally, I would have kept Lines however Coughlan has made a different call. Fair enough. I just wish he'd shown the sort of class that Clarke showed Brown last season in at least publically respecting what he has done for our club.
Water under the bridge now though.

The source is reliable. The agreement allegedly was with DC and not GC so didn’t need to be honoured

All a very unsavoury end to a fantastic career at the Gas for a homegrown player. I find that very sad. I'm sure both sides had their reasons and there will be two sides to every story, but I don't think it's up to us fans to worry about exactly what happened, nor should we drive the truth out as frankly it's none of our business. Let's just trust that GC has our interests at heart, and remember CL for the great player he was for us.

A football manager. You can please all of the people some of the time. You can please some of the people all of the time. You cannot please all of the people all of the time......

Lines doesn't strike me as a potential coach, I have to be honest.

I was critical of Higgs for not backing Penny over the player power so I'm going to stay firmly behind GC.
Only one person should be charge of the dressing room.

Managers nowadays live and die by the sword, time will tell if it was the right decision or not. On the subject the tea at yate town is top notch.

He hasn't even necessarily been released. Who knows, perhaps he dislikes GC enough to have called it a day.

Haven’t got a problem with lines being released just as I’ve said all season I wouldn’t have a problem with him not playing much this season if we had a creative midfielder to replace him We could have done so much better this season if we’d had someone who could do what he can/ has.
At least we’ve got all summer to find a playmaker now and I hope we do because despite what the Bristol Post is saying I don’t see Upson as the answer and if he is then I think the wrong questions are being asked.

Agree socrates. But I must have been lucky because most of the games I saw Upson had a good match, well better than others at least. I’d be happy for him to be playing next year as our defensive midfielder. But he is not our creative answer that’s clear and it’s creativity we need. We need someone to provide opportunities for the front two, JCH and our new forward. UTG!

I think chris lines just needs to find himself a decent club and totally focus on his football next season. He is a very talented and skilful player to watch although his on pitch personality was at times frustrating to my eyes. Watching him sprinting at speed with the ball totally under control was a joy to watch and caused panic in opposition defences. Also his cross field passes out to wide players were of the quality usually only seen at a higher level of football and its been quite comical seeing our current midfielders attempts at emulating them.

Fully expect Lines to be somewhere like FGR, Exeter or Newport next year a local-ish league club.
He won’t want to be too far from where his daughter is.
