Another poor signing from him then no surprise. They are going to be in for a struggle this season You think? I’d have him back in L1

Really? Why has it become so fashionable to slag off one of our beat ever managers on here? If this is how we treat our heroes... Shorter memories than Goldfishes some of our supporters. I don’t think some of them have any memories or a brain cell between them looking at comments on here recently which is sad.

Wouldn’t pay much attention to peoples opinions on players - many wouldn’t take Harrison or Taylor back which speaks volumes.
Even some on here slagging off Lockyer who’s arguably started the season as the best defender in the Championship.

He's started well but that's a silly statement.

That being said he achieved two promotions on the bounce and as such is the nearest thing we have got to a God, especially considering the mess we were in post relegation to the conference. So yeah, take his signings into account by all means but some of the writing off of his general managerial ability is shocking considering what he achieved here.

Agree with almost all of this, but when we say recruitment poat promotion was crap, let's not forget the excellent signings of Sercombe and Craig and the remaining decent ones that GC has benefited at times with since in Rodman, Upson, THD, keeping faith with Kilgour when some might have released him after his injury. Where he fell down was with his failure to replace Taylor, Bodin and Harrison. But that was always likely given the value they brought us versus the money he (rightly) had to spend. That's a lower league manager's lot unfortunately.

Clarke, Steve Tilson another at Southend, back to back promotions at a club that got momentum but I said when DC left and I stand by it now, he could be a Penney at Donnie who had a good 3 or 4 seasons but wasn’t that a great manager. Penney’s last job Sporting Director at York City, Tilson now works at a college and coaches a ladies team. If DC is fired from Walsall his next stop is non league again

Makes me cry this, he demanded more and more from our board and look at how he spent our money “his” on Payne, Mensah, Nichols, Bennett on £4K a week, the man is unreal
I can’t believe that clip

That's a lower league manager's lot unfortunately. I think that’s highly debatable tbh! Upson has had 2 good games this season and all of a sudden that erases his previous history at the club? Sercombe would be a positive if it wasn’t that he has stopped scoring and contributing. Nichols- enough said. Craig, pretty decent tbf. Rodman: should have been good but has actually not done a great deal. THD very good when available...but he’s not available. Bennett- bloody awful! Payne- likewise So for me it’s more bad than good, a lot more bad. It’s sad because when he first arrived he talked of hungry players on short term contracts yet come the end he was handing out 3 year deals to crap players just like his predecessors. I suspect there must be a certain inevitability as you climb up the leagues that you have to reward mediocrity a lot more. It probably helped that given our crowds we were more attractive perhaps in the conference and league two so had better pick of the players.

Those three were probably worth £3m to us...and that doesn't include losing Lee Brown either. Yet he had to replace them with around 500k. I'm not saying that was wrong. It's a lower league manager's lot to sell high and buy cheap, but it was inevitable that eventually the failure to keep pulling rabbits out of the hat was going to cost him. It will probably do the same to GC if we sell JCH as replacing such an important cog for a fraction of his value will be increasingly difficult to do.

That's the reality of managing in the lower leagues. A player's worth will always be dictated by their contract. 500k is a significant amount to spend in L1 and DC did a very poor job of that rebuild sadly.

DC took us into non league but recovered with two promotions to take us back to our historical place in Division 3. He gave us two mid table finishes in League 1, as good as anything this century. He did this whilst losing Bodin and Taylor and then lost Harrison and Brown. Pretty good record imo. Some people didnt like DC I get that but blimey to try and take away from what he achieved with us is just bonkers. Sometimes you never know what you’ve lost until you haven’t got it. I like GC for what he’s done and esp last season when he saved us from relegation. But I also think DC had the ability to change tactics early in a match and earn us wins from losing positions, GC hasn’t done much of that yet. But DC is gone, good luck to him but I support BRFC and so I’m behind GC as he tries to get us to consolidate our midtable position. We move on. And frankly those who criticise and snipe at DC well....... But as this is a football forum perhaps I shouldn’t be that surprised.

Nobody made wael constantly blab on about it but he did anyway. Nowadays he knows he has no money at walsall and our club are back to normal in the same boat. You also need to take into account that he sold or lost taylor, harrison, bodin and brown because it turned out that wael was telling little fibs about his plans. If you cant see that your a Banned word of the highest order. A grand master Banned word.

Surprising to see Walsall fans say James Clarke has been shocking this season I’m not because I found James Clarke a funny player... He was always committed to every game and shone out for us as he excelled himself sometimes and we loved him for that near the end because he had so many mediocre games for us...this just as I saw it and I’m probably wrong but lots of games went past of him hardly passing the ball forward and always back or sideways and being turned too easy. But for a good on the ball accomplished defender he is below average.
