As long as it's legal, it's ok. I just think it's a shame we do it. Ten of the Twenty Premier League clubs this season were sponsored by betting firms and Seventeen of the Twenty Four Championship teams were. When over 60% of teams from the top two tiers of English football are sponsored by firms that if players use they could be banned from playing we have an issue. Personally with the damage it does to peoples lives I'd like to see it banned from adverts on shirts, around the pitch and on TV.
Bit OTT for me, where do you stop? banning alcohol drink sponsors...better still ban alcohol entirely from games as that also ruins lives?
Yep, I'd ban alcohol sponsorship too. These sorts of deals aren't allowed in France & Turkey for instance. When clubs that are sponsored by Alcohol/Betting brands play there in European competition they end up playing in beautiful sponsorless shirts...
On a different note, I think it's quite sad that kids supporting Rovers last season couldn't wear the same shirt as their heroes.

Fair point. I’m not sure but would guess gambling sites must account for at least a 1/3 of football shirt advertising. If it’s universally banned ok , if not we may miss out. Plus we play in a league sponsored by a gambling company and when a game is on tv the amount of gambling ads are ridiculous. You even get them during the game if you listen to TalkSport.

Gambling is fast becoming an epidemic in th UK, its changed so much in last decade, theys after th younger person, much like our drink culture.
I would rather not see it on shirts, pitches or on TV adverts.
An i say that as someone who has been effected by both drink an gambling.

Well put, I can't imagine how difficult it must be if you're a recovering addict watching a game at home. If you're a recovering alcoholic not having a beer in the fridge certainly helps, if you're a recovering gambling addict watching football with a smart phone you have all the tools at your disposal. It's incredibly easy to bet.

It’s amazing how much money people can lose through these companies, especially on line bingo. Yet the people I know who have studied the form and done well have been threatened with or have actually had their accounts closed. Fine to gamble your house away, but don’t you dare try and win from us.

The band The Libertines sponsor Margate. Are you suggesting we contact Massive Attack? Not sure this particular manager would like that

But then surely you would have to close the bars inside the ground? After all alcohol has nothing to do with football, other than you have to be watered to watch us play at home currently...

Didn't they say they have one part-time Gashead, one part-time ted, and one bloke who used to work at the Mem, once. They were on Soccer AM a few months back and no Rovers shirt in sight but Jon Beavis the drummer had a ted shirt on. Dev the bassist is the one who worked at the Mem I think but I don't really think he's much of a fan. Also it's just Idles rather than The Idles.
