as this is the GC appreciation thread count me in , dont forget he was brought in as defensive coach and did a brilliant job there before being given the hospital pass to keep us up,well he took that pass controlled it and seized the opportunity to save our season ,now onward and upwards we go ,me thinks a good season is on the way and surely no one should have any reservations about him now!

GC said he would keep us up, when he took over we were low on confidence, I was looking to see who we might playing in league 2, the man worked a minor miracle and no one should forget that. Even more important is that fact that four years ago DC had just got us back into the football league and thought to myself no matter how we play or what we do I will never moan about the team again and every time I start to I remember the low we reached. I don't care to much about the type of football we play along as we don't go down, after what has happened in recent years I really appreciate the fact next season we will be playing the likes of Ipswich, Coventry and Bolton and not like a few years back when it was Woking and Alfreton.

Like I've said previously, people are well within their rights to have reservations. As I've said before, you don't get a fireman to rebuild your house. GC could be fantastic, he could be utterly dreadful, he'll probably be somewhere in between. He's completed his first job, the next one will make or break his career.

We could do this to death, as we do every summer, in truth none of us know what will happen next season. Lets just grab a cornetto, stick a handkerchief on our heads, roll out the union jack towels, bat away the pesky wasps, slap on the factor 50, drink to excess and get dehydrated angry, burn sausages on the bbq, wear flip flops badly, take a donkey ride, follow the hordes down to Greece, moan about the Welsh people at Bristol Airport, show off our bad tattoos, achieve van man one arm sunburn when driving, AND ENJOY SUMMER! Pah! Alright for you upperclass folk.

I’m entertained if we are winning. Besides Wycombe and Rochdale I haven’t been disappointed with the performance win or lose, I really think the team didn’t try under DC for the last month of his reign. I’m a big GC fan and he shares my views in a lot of cases. Some people need to remember DC is the past not the future we cannot change the past, we all love Darrell but it was time imo

. So true about the damn welsh at Bristol Airport ... Gets the holiday off to a bad start! Oy behave yourselves! I live in Wales, probably my in-laws though! 😂 It might be me. I've lived in the Valleys so long now I've got a mid Severn accent. Calling people "butt" too often but the Gas tattoo gives me away every time.

Sorry I did say I was going to depart and enjoy the summer but I thought I would post a positive thread as my last one was deemed a little negative. Cogs, I give him grace, not the best PR trained and our own version of Mick McCarthy, says it how it is. Yes he does need to get a little more savvy in this area, great skill in getting the fans on side for any manager in how you talk,. I don’t need this though, just a side that wins more than it loses for me and battles for the shirt. I would like to thank and praise him for picking up an absolute car crash of a situation in December and let’s remember this was his first attempt at it. Out when Payne and Bennett, the latter ever present before and in came Jaks, Oxford away was a great day. Bad apples sent away from the squad, the cake mixture wasn’t great with what he was left with and some didn’t like the taste of it with his version. Joking apart, he looked at what he had, central defence with no height or dominance (Donny 4-0 loss at home) and decided to play 4 central midfielders in front to protect them. This led to a rigid style of football, no width (previous manager left none) or pace but a solid formation and side hard to beat............the end result was we stayed up, we don’t know the ins and outs of Linesgate but again PR wise he never handled well. The coming season, budget, signings, enthused COGS has highlighted we need dominance, wingers and pace. Enthused he’s best mates with Chris Wilder and has said he wants to play football on the floor. I think anyone judging him on keeping a sinking ship afloat last season needs to question their own patience. Also if he goes by his last 2 signings again this leaves me with confidence. I am personally glad we have a manager hell bent on success and his own personal success, I am sure he sees us as a stepping stone, maybe even replacing Mick McCarthy one day. I don’t care if he doesn’t call us “my/me fans” or feel the need to tell us about off the field activities. I just want him to manage our team and I think he will do that next season with no other distractions. I’m saying it now, hold me to it as well, this man will take us to a top half finish next season and a real go for 6th place. Will be interesting to see how we play next season. He said when he took over, we can't play the kind of football he would like and that it would be a battle until the end of the season. So he did what was needed. Found a system that kept is in League 1. Hopefully he can now find a system, that isn't as boring, but still picks up points.

If Cogs gets us playing route one attacking football and we’re challenging for the play offs come next April then there will be very few complaining. I think many have complained over the last few months because we were sh**ting ourselves that we were going to be relegated at the time and it wasn’t pretty to watch. If his first game had been our first of the season then we’d have been top after four games and probably just outside the play offs come our most recent game, not too bad. JCH wonder goals of course made the difference but he had what he had to work with. How our summer recruitment goes will have a massive bearing on whether we can create more chances with pace and creativity next season or have to once again rely on wonder goals from one player. If it’s the latter then he will be sacked by Christmas along with JCH sold for hopefully big money ( no idea how long he signed for).

Looking forward to a season when we don't lay down in front of other teams and we become hard to beat. When we have a solid regular defence and a good midfield. Unfortunately we wont have a very good attack because we are saddled with the no hopers that Clarke signed

People blame Coughlan for getting us to play bad football but it wasn't like the football under DC earlier on in the season was anything great. The problem for me, isn't particularly the tactics that are making us play some dire stuff but mostly the personnel and apart from signing Ogogo and JCH, this isn't something that up until now, Coughlan could do a lot about. More quality out wide and an attacking CAM will make the world of difference to our efforts going forward. We've been trying to play it through the middle through Upson, Ogogo and Clarke whose attributes don't lend themselves particularly well to supplying the forwards and the only proper attacking midfielder in Sercs was sadly off the boil, pretty much all season. The biggest worry for me is replacing Lockyer who has formed the basis of our defence for quite a few years now, we'll need to put a bit of money into a decent replacement and hope Craig maintains the standard that he has been at. If Coughlan maintains his point ratio and adds to us this summer, I don't see why we can't push on under his management, I'm not expecting us to pull up any trees but having a more comfortable season than last and dare I say it maybe a bit of a cup run would be good, he's certainly the right man to take us forward in my eyes.

Good points Axegas but personally I don’t think Lockyer will be a loss in terms of his ability on the pitch. We will miss Locks as a captain, if Cogs gets the right leader to replace him we will be ok, it needs to be a captain who sees us a long term club for him. Ollie Clarke could be captain but I am not sure his consistency means he starts every week and it’s a shame Craig isn’t younger. This said, Craig could do the job for a season if he stays with us and is first choice under Cogs. Replacing Locks should be easy on ability, we need someone bigger and more dominant. Don’t get fooled by the Wales caps just as we never should have when Michael Rickettsia got a cap for England. Wales has a population of 3.1 million people, Tranmere and FGR have had players in the squad last season, Giggs pool is tiny and he has to make the numbers up. The scouts came and saw Tom like Bodin and Taylor, no one paid £250k or £500k for him in January for a reason.

Many goals that season come from long balls forward from the likes of Parkin, 20p, Joner and Jock to Big Dev and his flick ones or nod downs were latched on to by Boris and Billy. Winning football comes first, if it's done in style that's great, if it's more direct but successful then everyone should still be happy. However, if GC goes ugly from day one and we struggle near the bottom again things will quickly turn against him I suspect - and against WAQ if there is seen to be little support for half decent signings.
