Given their views I don't think having UKIP sponsorship at Rovers would be the greatest of timings, given recent events!!

I guess we already did, by association with Charlotte Leslie.
To be fair, that was not monetary and Charlotte was also joined by members of other parties in lending support to the move to UWE and the sale of the Mem to Sainsbury's.

IMO it is ok to have adverts up around the ground for any of the main three + ukip + greens. It's straightforward ad space. We don't have to like the product. However, I wouldn't want one political party to get any closer than that to the team, e.g. kit sponsorship or sponsoring the match day coach etc. Or renaming a stand the Ukip Stand lol!

Trouble is, once you accept, say Labour and Conservative ads, you'd be obliged to accept UKIP and Green ads, and therefore you'd be obliged to accept Communist, Socialist Worker, Respect and BNP ads, etc. Which is why it's best to have a general exclusion; so you never have to make judgements on the edge cases.

I agree with where you've drawn the line.
To have an advert for the Lib Dems in the ground would indeed be totally unacceptable.

Yes, it would be awkward and cause splits among fans. On second thoughts, let's tell 'em all to go forth and multiply. Keep it out of football.

the problem is that when it comes to politics it isn't an advert it's a tactic....
all my rovers mates probably have different political allegiances, then again, they might not.... I don't really care to be honest because supporting a football club is all about wanting the same thing....
the only political debate I want to get in at the mem is;
cheesy chips v pasties ale v lager

Personally I don't see what the problem is? Don't get me wrong, I can't stand UKIP! But at the end of the day they've played for that sponcer hoarding. Besides, it's not like it's displaying a swastika or anything?!

Yeah, I was trying to keep it reasonable.

No place for politics in football it just creates infighting. Celebrate what we have in common

I think it's a shame that football wasn't able to keep advertising out of it's stadiums. It seems there is nothing in the world any more where you can just go -and have a nice distraction from the 40+ hour work week for peanuts - without having a load of gaudy adverts screaming in your face to part with your hard earned peanuts to acquire the latest crap to make yourself less of the failure as a person that you clearly are because look at how much fun everyone is having in those pretty billboards.
So as you can imagine a political ad at the Mem would probably cause me to have an aneurysm. Especially UKIP, Jesus Christ Kidderminster. Ugh.

Brentford were once sponsored by a trade union.
