Sad to see him go. Definitely one of our best performers last season.

Probably a good move all round. Turned his season around after his nightmare at Loftus Road. Great attitude and no little talent but more a squad player for a side that hopes to be in the top half of league one

Turned down an improved two year deal. Good luck to him.

I’m genuinely gutted about this as he could play in different positions and I was hoping we would keep him and progress him. Was a fee involved ? I didn’t see any mention of it.

'James Clarke will officially join the Saddlers on 1st July when his contract expires at Bristol Rovers.' Bit of a giveaway!

A good move for all. Good luck and thank you JC. It's only a good move for all if we replace him sufficiently. Would have been good to keep around because of his versatility.

GC really is having a clear out. I hope he has some good players and characters lined up.
I might go along when Walsall are at Crawley next season and shout - 'It's just like watching the Gas'!

There's people who are blaming Coughlan all over the place (not on this not on twitter). But this incident has made me the most embarrassed as a fan for a while.
I don't think it's Coughlan's fault whatsoever. Clarke probably leaved given the state of the club, may have been offered more money at Walsall and he's obviously long-time friends with Darrell Clarke and has followed him everywhere.

Not really a clear out if we offered him an improved contract and Walsall then beat it? Let's see if Walsall's wage bill now rockets under DC as ours seems to have under his management.

Sad to see him leave if I’m honest, his versatility and performances last season were a plus for Rovers. Fully expect Partington to leave also so hopefully replacements to follow soon. Good luck to JC UTG

So a league one first team player who chooses to drop down a league. What does that say about us? Would our players now rather drop down a league than play for us?
Will we replace him with someone better? Maybe. We will replace him with someone who can cover all defensive positions and be as good as he was? Probably not. Will need at least two players to cover him now.

Sad to see him go. Won’t read too much into the state of the club from this. He’s clearly a D.C. player like Stu Sinclair. A great shame
