Fair point. I'm on about the whole rape thing.. I know it was quashed but that's a label hard to shake. I think he's a good player and perhaps his infamy has kept he from playing at a higher level!? He's innocent. End of. His jail time probably kept him from playing at a higher level and the fact he rejoined a Sheffield United team on the up and with someone like Billy Sharp ahead of him. He has a 1 in 2 record at League One level and his 18 goals last season shows he can still do it at this level. I'd really love him here, him and JCH would be a frightening prospect for opposition defences. He might have been found innocent but there's still a lot of people who view him as guilty. Regardless of what eventually came out, he still gets abuse for it and I think that was more what Westy was getting at.

At the club shop! Went in to buy a baby grower as I'm soon to be an uncle. He popped his head in and asked the girl at the till if we're busy today, apparently he keeps doing it and making a good relationship with the shop workers, which is nice. We were chatting together for a good 10 minutes tbf, he was on his way to get the contracts ready for the striker as he walked past. Players were having lunch at the stadium, I saw Davies, Jordi & someone else I didn't recognise in the car park walking up. He said it would be today or tomorrow announcement - no idea if he'll play though, I'd expect him to though if he signs today good news, tbf to GC In every interview he praises the staff who may not get the credit they deserve. So he literally said we are signing a striker to you out of nowhere or did you ask on progress in the market? good to see mate Funnily enough actually he mentioned it - I got all excited asking if it was Leon Clarke, he said he was the first person he asked about & spoke to, but his wages increased upon promotion - to 28,000 a week!!! We were then joking, can you imagine JCH & Clarke together & how deadly they'd be. I get the feeling, the way he was buzzing about it, that this could be our marquee striker but I am literally guessing this. He was much more reserved about THD & JCH injuries, he almost didn't want to say until we pushed him on it. He said "Let me put it this way, I'm not worried about JCH at all, just a niggle" "And THD?" "*sigh* yeah he'll be out for months"

There's still part of me hoping this is some weird elaborate scheme and that THD is starting tomorrow, but I can't figure out a reason why anyone would make up an injury for pre-season.

Apparently Sheffield United will be willing to let Ched Evans leave on a free. He was on £5k per week last season.

I’d have Ched Evans here in a heart beat. Very good player at this level and someone I’d class as a marquee signing.

It will be Lavery, he's been at Southend, Plymouth must have some link to GC. On a different note Waddock has been made assistant at Southend, does that mean Kevin Maher has joined us.

Did he comment on the budget or was that about it?

In fairness i think th point folk are makin regarding Ched Evans is it could create a poisonous atmosphere, fair point by Pirate sayin he's innocent, but Jamie Cureton was innocent but it didnae stop hundreds of fucckin crayons bombardin him with 'Paedo, Paedo' chants.
Personally, i think we could do without th crapp that comes with him.

Hardly a "marquee signing" though. If it is Lavery, the Marquee ones must be amongst the other 2 or 3 attacking options Cogs said he wants.

Who do these people think they are hounding the guy when he was (eventually) cleared? It's the same with that lad who signed for London Irish, nothing proven against him and yet the pitchfork wielding lunatic fringe crawl out from under their stone on forums like Mumsnet and think they have the right to stop the guy from working. It really makes me worry about where the world is going when lynch mob on social media trumps the core tenet of British justice: "Innocent until proven guilty".

Mark Little is the only good L1 player we’ve signed on paper. It surely has to be Evans as a ‘marquee’ signing. But it’s more likely to be Lavery due to the Southend, Plymouth and Sheffield Wednesday (I believe he supports them) links. Perhaps wilder is giving a good price at united??

"I'm in for one or two, what people would call marquee signings, big players, big names. "My fingers are crossed. I hope to use the old Irish patter, the Irish blarney on them. I've given them the pitch so fingers crossed."

Yep that tenet does not apply, apparently, to sexual offences where it is “guilty till proven innocent and even then we don’t think you are....so there!” As Paul Gambacini and others like him have found to their cost. Makes my blood boil.....😡 Maybe a football forum ain’t quite the right place for this debate though....🤐
