Need wide players still and need a striker or 2.

Perhaps buts it’s the lack of striking power and creativity which is the bigger worry imo. Defensively we'll be ok but scoring and midfield creativity, a bit more work needed I think. UTG! with reference to our striking power, Serc,Tom Nichols, Rodders & Reilly can't have another bad season can they I fancy Reilly to kick on this season if given the chance. I hope he stays rather than going back up north.

Yes, although the attacking problems are also in part due to a lack of quality in midfield. Both need addressing. Not sure yet about GC's signings. JCH has obviously been a huge success and Ogogo has been ok too. The others are unknown until they play for a while, but on paper look to be good signings, although I have concerns about the lack of experience in the goalkeeper position. Like DC, GC will make some good signings and some poor ones - what matters now is getting these offensive signings right. I reckon our season depends upon it and agree that unless this is resolved, we will have the same problems as last season. IMO another cause of our attacking problems is dropping deep. I think this is largely due to Craig wanting to drop the line deep to cover up his lack of pace. As much as I like him and will always back him in his individual battles I fear his selection could cause problems for our overall shape. If we had a quick central defensive pairing (or even a lightening quick fullback like Leads to provide an insurance policy) we could play a higher line, compress the game and ensure our midfield are more in touch with the strikers. The strikers were so isolated last year as we had a flat back four and a defensive midfield and then a massive gap to the strikers. The quality of supply and availability of support certainly makes life harder for the strikers. Being more attacking overall and playing higher up the pitch will naturally lead to more end product from our attacking players (I hope !!) Interesting point. I really like Craig and think he has been excellent for us, but I can see where you are coming from. With Lockyer having left though, it would be a huge gamble to drop Big Tone, thus losing both centre halves who were an integral part of us staying up last season. I think I'd want another year out of him while Kilgour develops into his long term replacement.

In the meantime we will probably have to accept a deep defensive line and a midfield too far detached from the strikers. If so we may be better off with a 4-4-1-1 to have a link between midfield and the striker? A lot of talk about having a creative midfielder but if they end up really deep they will add little value. GC will probably stick with two defensive central midfielders for this reason?

With Rodman probably also starting on the right wing, their only seems one midfield slot to fight for and I doubt Sercombe will be happy to start on the bench, so it's left wing or top of the diamond/deep lying No 10 for him?

Maybe, just maybe we have that player already, be it Sercombe or Nichols...
