I cannot, for the absolute life of me, figure out GC’s thought process with that starting midfield today. To be fair, as of last season the back 5 were solid today. Jakkola handled most things well, a constant Ariel barrage into his box right under the crossbar, with an onrushing monster of a centre forward all over him. Davies and Craig look an established partnership already, Leahy had a sound game for the most part. But a special mention to Josh Hare whom I thought had a superb game, having been called into action in only the 8th minute.
The forwards (bless them) have absolutely nothing to work with all day, the service into them was at best abysmal. when they do finally get that ball under control (again, in tricky conditions) there was absolutely no support offered from the 4 behind them.
So onto the midfield. If I never have to see Upson, Ogogo & Clarke on the pitch at the same time ever again, I’ll be one happy man. This is as defensive as you can get, an Away from home set up and leaving Bennett on the bench after last week was absolutely criminal. Captain Ollie C has had an absolutely stinker once again, he couldn’t get a first touch down, his distribution sloppy and slow, constantly dispossessed.
Mr invisible Liam Sercombe was once again anonymous, to the point where he is a waste of shirt. Wide, central, behind the front 2? He’s been tried everywhere and offers nothing.
A disappointing, flat afternoon on and off the pitch. We head to St Andrews next week (with a tricky league cup tie in between) and our performances MUST improve ten fold, losing the negative midfield set up and playing with more intent, tempo & urgency. Otherwise GC will soon have some serious questions to answer.

Spot on mate.
We're crying out for a bit of creativity in midfield. Let's hope we can get some in the door before the end of the window.

Can’t disagree with any of that. OC as a CAM. WTH?
JCH comes on and goes almost left wing?
It’s clear we have got too many CDMs, Upson is just not good enough for this league and he just refuses to play Sercs in his strongest position.
We desperately need a winger and a creative CM.
I will say that Adebejayho (please correct spelling) did well when he got the ball and it wasn’t sailing over his head.

I don’t believe we are a bad team by any stretch and won’t buy into the ‘we will struggle all season’ line just yet. The midfield needs sorting out ASAP, it’s much like having a solid back 5, two strikers stranded in the final third of the pitch and a gaping hole of absolutely nothing in the middle of the park. Figuring out the midfield and getting JCH match fit 100% will make all the difference. As the title suggests, it’s as you were from January to May. Defensively sound, but still struggling to figure out what we want to do and who with, across the middle. See you all at Birmingham.

Spot on Hudson, agree with Secs as well, as one of his biggest fans I have to admit he was nonexistent today and at times hiding from the ball.
Cannot for the life of me understand why we didn’t just set up 442 with Clarke and Upson in the middle, Bennett and Rodman on the wings. Seems our best option with what we have at our disposal.

Yup, agreed.
Defensively obvious we have young lads at the back getting used to playing as a unit. Shame little went off so early. Davies had a real battle today with Akinfenwa, did ok!
Stikers, had zero service all game, Adebejayo looks like a real find, was able to create his own chances. Would like to see JCH and Adebejayo play 90 together.
What on earth was the midfield all about, why are we starting with 4 CMs? None of which able to create anything for the players in front of them. Upson - just not very good at all. Sercombe - missing, again. Agogo - cant fault the guys effort, people around me saying he not doing alot, but that is not his game, he is player that breaks downs opposition plays, if other players in midfield were performing I think we'd see his value to the team. Clarke - is a DM or a AM, not sure what Ollie's role in the midfield is.
Please can we use the wide player we have or bring in some new faces.
Early days of course, but looking like we settle for a draw after the second game of the season.

Bennett is too lightweight to play in those conditions and we don't have any other options at the moment.

Completely agree re the midfield we were crying out for width and when Bennett finally came on he played behind the strikers. If GC isn't prepared to play Rodman or Bennett as wide players at home then he simply has to bring in at least 1 preferably 2 wingers, Adeboyejo showed a lot of promise feeding off scraps I'd like to see him alongside JCH but as has been said numerous times before it won't matter who plays up front unless we start creating some chances.

The ball stays in the air a lot more in those conditions. Anyone who has ever played, knows that. He's not exactly the battling type lol

It’s laughable that anyone can say a player can’t play in the wind!
Whatever next? Bit too hot? Ohh that nasty rain....
GC needs to hold his hands up and say he messed up
We’d all respect him more for doing so.

GC is aware that he needs more players.
I doubt there will be much investment if the club is up for sale.

We are not Barcelona. IMO we had more chance of picking up 3 points, playing the way we did. Than with Bennett on wing playing 442. We would have struggled to get the ball to him IMO. The ball was staying in the air a lot today and blowing across the pitch. It effected the game in a big way.

I can't understand why we as a club always worry about the opposition line up, shouldn't they have to worry about ours? Bennett was MotM last week, has been our most impressive attacking player all summer and then GC drops him for our first home league game, and to make matters worse plays OC at No 10 for the first time this summer, a position he doesn't seem to have a clue how to play but Beano, Sercs & Nichols can all play there w/o any problems.

Dan with respect, I did keep the ball on the ground and I expect professionals to do the same too. No we we arent Barca, but it is relative, we are playing against a team in our own league, a poor side like Wycombe bloody Wanderers!!

To me coughlans thought process was exactly the same as it has been in virtually all his games as manager.

Always had concerns about GC but always felt guilt for doing so as he performed a minor miracle last season. But couldn’t shrug the worrying feeling he was far far too negative. Today confirmed it beyond doubt for me. First home game of the season against a very winnable opponent and any player with even a shred of creativity on the bench.
Criminal.
Is going to be a very long, very boring season. At best.
Underwhelmed gashead.
