Did you know subbuteo was invented by a Brit called Peter Adolph and was named after his love of falconry? (subbuteo being a Latin name for a type of bird). Interestingly, the creator had no fingers after losing them from septicaemia secondary to serious burns sustained a terrible baking accident. Several years later whilst at home alone preparing for a subbuteo semi final, Adolph went in to a challenge full throttle without considering the consequences. His fist hit a candle which was posing as a floodlight and it fell to the floor igniting the shed his wife had insisted he use for his miniature endeavors. Unfortunately whilst trying to dial 999 he accidentally smashed the number 118118 with his clumsy fist and eventually succumbed to the terminal tedium that directory enquiries call handlers put you through and was bored quite literally to death. None of that is probably true. subbuteo, now you're talking. When I left England I left this in my Uncles loft. He sadly passed away a few weeks ago. My sister was clearing his house and found it. I'm seriously thinking of having this shipped to Australia.

I used to test CM4 years ago in Islington. Still the best job I ever had. 6 quid an hour plus your travel paid for. Used to work a lot of hours so seemed like decent money at the time.

Has anyone else ever sent for something with a SAE then forgot all about it only to be completey surprised a few days later to find that not only did you forget you sent yourself something but that you didn't even regonize your own hand writing?

Used to play it when I was a kid. Couldn't play it now though. We used to play tournaments which lasted for the whole of the summer holidays. I had one of those roll out pitches which didn't bunch up during play, so my house was a very popular venue. Happy days.

I always start off with one a team in one of the lowest leagues around the world. (Wont be long until I can start with Rovers!) I play for a few seasons, move onto a bigger club and then loose interest until the next years game came out! On last years one my second team got a takeover and got tons of cash, which in turn took out a lot of fun to be honest! Much more fun managing a team with no transfer funds!
I will no doubt get the new game, then try and find some time to play it.

Love the game, been playing it since it was championship manager on the Amiga in about 1994, Chris Sutton was at Norwich and was the best player on the game, we even had a 24 hour session on it back then!
I still play but nowhere near as much, although looking at steam recently it says I've played 596 hours on last years version!! Not quite the 780 I did on 2012. I did manage to get the gas to the Prem this year but it took me until 2021 and my highest finish was 12th.
Will be buying this years tomorrow when I get paid and putting a few hours in no doubt, looking forward to getting us out of the conference as well.

On the 2012 version I took Dover to the championship and also manged to buy Carlos Tevez and Frank Lampard!
I think everyone on here could understand my pain of seeing them equalize against us in real life!

(subbuteo being a Latin name for a type of bird) The Hobby. Hint. Don't ever call your bird a hobby. It won't end well.

Hint. Don't ever call your bird a hobby. It won't end well. Well, I like to do my hobby at the weekends, and maybe the odd week night.

AGAIN.

subbuteo was a cool game, but I remember it always got a bit controversial due to the fact that no 2 people ever interpreted the rules in the same way.... I guess that's what made it cool

My cousin Kevin always beat me at Subbuteo. Cos he flicked the kick, and I didn't know.
