Toppergas, I am saying give him the funds to sign three maybe four players even if all loans and give him until January. It is not the quality of the opposition that I worry about - it is more our quality and the way we have played. Blackpool and Coventry have not impressed me as definite play off contenders and both games could have been won with a bit of organisation and a bit of attacking philosophy. unfortunately our summer signings have done nothing to improve our attacking side of the game. Is GC capable of making the signings necessary? He said he could but I am not convinced and unless he can change his way of playing as he said he would then I would definitely sack him now because the present football will see crowds back to the faithful 5500 by Christmas and we don't have sufficient goals in the squad to even stay up.

I think we need a reality check here
How much did we spend on transfers in the summer?
We are picking up off-casts and cheap loans
We have an un-balanced squad and injury prone full backs.
Lack of investment will come to haunt us at some point and until we get new owners we will be lucky to survive in League 1
So what do we do? What we’ve always done! Support the players we have. The worrying thing for me are reports that the players are not giving their all. If they lack faith in GC and are secretly doubting his tactics we are in trouble.
I’m going on Tuesday with my 10 year old lad, who, bless him, still looks forward to the ‘event’ and the sing along. I look forward to seeing some old faces, having a beer and hoping for a performance. I’ve been watching for long enough to know things never run smooth but I take the crap as I generally know there will be the odd sprinkle of gold here and there!
Football is all about confidence. Win Tuesday and start picking up points again and we will all feel better again.
Lose Tuesday with a Payne winner in the last minute..... well, it won’t happen will it?

I agree if we are going to play attacking full backs, who ideally would be a fit Little and THD, we have to play 3 CBs. Either that or we have to sign a wide player and change the formation to play with wingers, but I'm not sure Hare and Leahy are good enough defensively for that. On paper the results haven't been that bad, there's no disgrace in losing 2-0 at Blackpool and Coventry. The problem is we just don't look like scoring! Having said that we have been unlucky at key moments in all three games, hitting the post twice and having a goal disallowed. Let's be honest, after allowing GC to bring in all his own backroom staff they're not going to sack him before September. Therefore he has to be given the funds to bring in a creative player, even if it's a loan, to give us a chance of finding some form. We need to go for it from the off against Tranmere, get an early goal and get the fans back on side! UTG

Leahy and Hare offer us something going forward but offer so little defensively. THD and Little can't get better quick enough and if I was GC I would be seriously thinking about Kelly and a few other alternatives.
Only 1 positive from that performance and it was Kilgour, don't think Craig has another full season left and certainly don't think he's good enough at the age he is now to stay next term so atleast we've found a decent cb from the development squad.
I'll save the worries and doubts until we've played our 2 home games but anything less than 4 points from those i'd consider us having a long hard season.

Honest report; Alfie did very well, the rest, the full backs, midfield, Nichols & Upson need to take a long hard look at themselves, they were all shocking. JCH & Tyler we’re feeding off scraps. very poor performance. JCH is overweight and didn't run enough (not ready to start games). very harsh to knock Upson and Nichols - they were not on the pitch during our very very lacklustre, ploddy first half.

Thought he needed long breaks of no running just get to 65 mins - I'd say he's been rushed back - would start the 2 loanees until he can guarantee us 80 -90 mins at full speed.

Over the summer, imo we made the team worse not better and this is now showing. We lost Bonham and Lockyer and whilst their replacements are pretty decent, they aren't on the same level. Hare and Leahy aren't as good as what they've replaced in James Clarke and THD, I do think this will improve when Little and THD come back from injury but for now we are stuck with two evidently worse fullbacks than we had last season. The biggest problem, a lacklustre midfield, has not been addressed and the same problems of last season have carried over into this one, we have too many defensive midfielders that are better at tackling and passing the ball sideways than they are going forward and the supposed creative players that we do have in Bennett and Sercombe are inconsistent and underperforming. The attack is probably the only area of the pitch that we have improved but even then it remains to be seen whether JCH can replicate the goalscoring form of last season and that Smith and Adeboyejo can make more of an impact than Jakubiak did, the fact is we've failed to score a goal in the league this season yet. It's not all doom and gloom, the squad possess some good individuals but Coughlans going to have to sign 2-3 players on top of what we've got if we want anything but a disappointing season at this stage.

Once again I have read your report with interest, and whilst I do not always agree with your assessments, you do at least try to give your reasons for them, and your reports are most welcome.
As some others have said I do think the full-back markings have been a bit harsh, even though you at least acknowledge the vital defensive block by Leahy to prevent an earlier goal. However, yes his poor header led to their goal, but that was not the first or only mistake of the game! Unfortunately, there sems to be a lot of focus on him and his errors are always going to be highlighted. Aansi almost scored a calamatous own goal, and Jonson's unnecessary foul chalked off a goal for Davies.
Personally, I do not think Leahy offers much more than Kelly and I feel Kelly should have been given the opportunity to push on from last season and continue his development with us - this is what we have been screaming out for (development squad coming through to the first team). I do not think we would have signed Leahy had we not had two left sided players with long term injuries, together with the possibility of losing Bennett as well (who can play on that side). But he is our player now and Cogs picks him ahead of kelly for a reason. He does not have to explain his team selection to us fans, that is his job, so forget all that nonsense about being a liar!
Both full-backs have been left exposed, but Hare seem to me the better of the two signings, and I think has not looked out of place having stepped up a couple of divisions, albeit in a poor Rovers side. However, I will not judge our players after only four competitive games, and I certainly will not be slagging off our own players - more on that later!
As for Nichols, I think behind the front two, in that current Bennett role, is his best position and I am hopeful that he can make an impact there. Unfortunately though I feel time is running out for him and he was poor again yesterday. But it was dificult to make an impact at that stage of the game with Coventry comfortably controlling the game.
Some credit should go to Cogs for starting Alfie in this game - he has been a massive positive so far this season, and with Tom Davies alongside him, I feel we could have a solid partnership. I can only hope that we can be in a position where we can also begin introducing Tomlinson into games this season, as I have great hope for a star of the future.
Finally, I just want to add where I feel I totally disagree with your marking: that given for our away support. You gave 9/10 for no doubt turning out in numbers and generally making a lot of noise as befits the Gas travelling Army. However, the reaction at the final whistle was an embarrassment!
Thankfully, there was just about enough applause for the team that came to us to acknowledge our travelling support, but the boos from our own fans was undoubtedly dominant and was clearly heard from our players, and it affected them. It even started when the first player came to us (Smith, I think), who was on his own, before the rest of the team joined him, to be met with boos! Great treatment for a young lad on loan!
Gasheads! This was undoubtedly a poor performance, and a huge disappointment. But only our fourth competitive game, only our third league game, only our second defeat of the season!
I was embarrased to be a Gashead yesterday. I am proud of supporting a team that invariably struggles on and off the pitch, that continues to watch with envy as our noisy neighbours continue to widen the gap between us, that continues to struggle with adversity, that has limited funds, that will always be cosidered the poor relation in a two club city. But our support was supposed to be 'loyal and true' that will 'always follow the boys in blue.....and white!'
Giving up on our team, so negatively vocal, so early in the season was a disgrace!
I have never booed our own side. I have, on occasions, when extremely disappointed or even angry with the performance, simply stormed out of the ground, without applauding the team off. That is as far as it should go.
Might I suggest if you feel unable to 'support' the Gas, come what may, then stay away. Because, this is the Gas, we continue to hope, but we do not truly expect great things. That is not why we support the Gas. We were born to it, it is in our blood, perhaps we have deliberately chosen the underdog, but we are proud of being a Gashead. I feel four or five thousand loyal supporters will be more positive for our team than seven or eight thousand disgruntled fans, ready to abuse our own players!
Players come and go, managers come and go, but I support Cogs because he is our manager; I support all of our players, because they are playing in the blue and white quarters for the Gas!
UTG!

I could never and would never boo a Rovers side off of the pitch, yet how could anyone possible have applauded them? Many a time after a shocking away performance/result I’ve stood in amazement as Gasheads have clapped a hopeless/clueless Rovers side off. A head scratcher for sure.

This report will be short because that was the amount of entertainment I took from this game. I can't think of much positive to write about the Manager, the majority of the players or the tactics (or lack of them) used in this game. Though the team was the same that beat Cheltenham so easily last Tuesday I was not one of those taken in by the ideal that this eleven would be good enough to get a result from todays game. There is little doubt that the gap between most of League 2 and this division is almost as huge as the gap between League 1 and the Championship. On the evidence of todays game it is going to be a long hard season where under GC we will be lucky to saty up even with 2 spaces pretty well taken! It was clear from the first 15 minutes that we would be constantly torn apart down both sides as Coventry were given the freedom of the park down the sides by Sercombe , Ollie Clarke, Leahy and Hare.None of those seemed to have a clue what they were supposed to be doing and both Ogogo and Bennett did little to help them out by holding onto the ball. Put it this way if all players contracts were up I would get rid of both full backs, the entire midfield and back ups Upson and Nichols. None of them are good enough to have my club anything but a relegation contender. On to individuals Gosh people have been very generous on a performance that just wasn't good enough- in truth pathetic. Jaakkola 7 Apart from one moment of madness I thought he did pretty well. Hare 3 Nightmare both defensively and offensively. A couple of reasonable crosses prevented a two as was taken to the cleaners all game. Davies 7 Solid but it is very difficult when Coventry are getting past your full backs so often Kilgour7.5 MOM A old head on young shoulders but Tony Craig did not deserve to be left out based on the Wycombe game. Leahy 3 Nightmare both defensively and offensively and directly involved in both goals conceded. One great block prevented a two as he too was taken to the cleaners constantly. Ogogo 4 Fought hard and battled but that's it. Lacks any real creativity and today a part of the worse midfield unit performance I have seen in many a year. Clarke 3.5 Apart from one brilliant run ending in a shot high over the bar he showed little in the way of awareness of what was happening all game and allowed the left side of Coventrys midfield to totally over run the team. Captain of our team -a disgraceful decision by the Manager as he cant even produce a decent performance himself. Sercombe 4 A mixed game in that at times he looked as if he was starting to get back some form but then for long periods drifting out of the game and not really knowing what he was supposed to be doing. Bennett 4 Too easily knocked off the ball and just not imposing .Was lucky not to be sent off and although his workrate has improved he did little to actually create any positive attacks. Smith 4 Terrible service to him but lacks the physicality to do the sort of holding up game he need to do for the way we play. Clarke-Harris 4 Way off last seasons form which is not surprising but not helped by so many lack lustre team mates. Subs: Upson 3.5 Much of a muchness. Was never going to give the team what it needed- a bit of pace ,power and conviction. Nichols 3 Why do we waste a substitutes place. Either play him on the wing or midfield or don't play him at all because a striker he is not. Adeboyejo 4 Tried hard but with such poor service was never going to be able to change the pattern of play. Crowd 9 An excellent following that just don't deserve to endure 90 minutes of rubbish like that. Ref 5 Well didn't really affect the result but so inconsistent with decisions. Coventry 6 I firmly believe that they aren't that good but were made to look so much better by the way we allowed them the freedom of both sides of the park. If they had been any good they would have given us a tanking. Gc- Speechless- we have three members of Management on the bench and none of them seem capable of sorting out the mess on the pitch. Was obvious after the first ten minutes that the formation and set up wasn't working and even when the substutions were made far too late they were all like for like. Three blind mice comes to mind! So we move on to two home games and though it is only early doors the Tranmere game could be one of our most important games .If it is one point out of 12 after Tuesday then we are in great danger!! UTG Lets cut to the f**king chase and not beat around the bush and do these f**king long reviews, No disrespect Stevio.👌 We are sh**e. We were last season after DC left, yet stayed up with luck. But we have not improved during the off season..In fact have got worse. Our attack is shameless, and embarrassing and will be the reason we go down if we do. Now to our Owners, the Manager - sort it, or the sh** will come your way and we will be f**ked. What's the point in coming onto a forum and then sitting on the fence !!!!

Agree with most of that Steve.
We have big problems and I don't think we have the manager or players to put it right.
The keeper and centre backs did okay but the rest of the team were so poor. The full backs got torn to shreds, beaten time and time again, midfield non existent and strikers lacked service but failed to get a single shot on target.
I just can't see us signing the 2 or 3 players we so desperately need to come into our starting 11 and improve the midfield.

Just to put things in perspective the three teams we have played are 2nd 3rd and 4th in the league, I know that they wouldn’t be there if they hadn’t taken points from us but still all three teams have started very well, certain new players are settling in quite well, and look quite useful, pls wait after 3 more matches are played, i for one is very disappointed about our start, but unlike some fans I don’t want or expect things to be done Yesterday

However our best spell this season was the first 30 mins vs Blackpool. We have gone backwards since. The style of football is terrible. I don't really know what out plan is. We don't try and play, we don't press, we don't create. The strikers don't get a look in. The only thing we can do consistently is hit the ball long and give it away. We drew 0-0 with Coventry away last season but it was identical to yesterday. It was embarrassing.

We are in trouble with the lack of quality In the squad
Before the season started we needed to get rid of upson/ Nichols and bring in a creative midfielder and a winger
Ollie Clarke being made captain was a obvious decision but he’s been mister inconsistent for years now and struggled to get in the team on occasions so making him captain means he’s going to be picked week in and week out no matter what he plays like.
We are such a weak team compared to our promotion winning team and all on probably double the wages
We need to go back to 4-4-2 in my opinion but having leahy and Bennett down the left is such an obvious weakness for a team to exploit Leahy was painful to watch yesterday taking up shocking positions to let their winger have all the space in the world
Kilgour is our big bonus and I hope him and Davies play a lot now as he was far the better defender than craig...
It’s like we need to scrap most of the squad and start with a clean canvas...most of our squad our cheating the fans out of their money 💵
