"Widdrington then stepped up for the spot-kick and attempted to neatly dink the 'keeper, but Thomas in the Forest Green net was unphased and caught the chip" If I were a manager and one of my players did that I would give them a bollocking whether it went in or not If I was writing a match report for general consumption I'd make sure I knew the difference between 'unphased' and 'unfazed'!

That's why he saved it. His phasing wasn't in sync with the shot so he didn't dive in time with the shot, was still standing and so could catch the attempted dink. Brilliant use of language methinks

It's one of life's mystery's how Widdington junior is still at the club, given that he never gets near the 1st team. Weren't people saying exactly the same about Hargreaves jr. until recently? I always thought Hargreaves & Russe were potentially 1st team players, Widdrington as never got near even appearing on the bench, from memory, for a 1st team league game. Not sure where Hargreaves has gone now as he's not in the squad today, although neither are Rollin or any of the newcomers for that matter. I assume BG is keeping the two squads apart?

This is his first full week without a game. The only other time we didn't have a game, he was off for half of the week. So I expect anyone pushing for a first team start, isn't playing today. So he can get some decent training in today and tomorrow. Otherwise they would have been recovering from today's game and wouldn't have trained a lot today.

I was wondering why a few others are not involved. But your reasons make very good sense. If some were involved today, they would be missing from BG's training today and would have a day off tomorrow too so again away from BG's training. Makes sense for those pushing for starts not to be involved in this game today.

6' | Early chance for Rovers - as Luca Hoole places a finish just beyond the far-post after darting inside the Plymouth penalty area. 21' | Widdrington plays in Harry Warwick with a well-placed ball over the top. The striker does well to shift off the attention of a defender and hits a low effort that requires a stop from Cooper. 32' | Bennett and Russe combine, as the winger slots in the midfielder to strike a first-time effort on goal that is pushed away by Cooper. 47' | Early second-half chance for Rovers as Harry Warwick draws a fine stop from Mike Cooper. 48' | Another plausible chance for Rovers, as Theo Widdrington is played in and hits a powerful effort on target that Cooper tips around the upright. 50' | Cooper again forced into action, as the Plymouth 'keeper darts across goal to tip wide a Sam Matthews free-kick.
61' | Plymouth take the lead - as Kaladi Lolos converts a close-range header. 0-1.
68' | Plymouth add a second goal - with Fletcher glancing home a close-range finish. 0-2.
72' | The visitors add a third goal, with Adam Randell hitting the target after being found free on the penalty spot. 0-3.
75' | Plymouth on the scoresheet again, as Purrington slots home from Fletcher's cutback across goal. 0-4.
80' | A defensive mix up allows Fletcher to charge in on goal and the substitute places a finish beyond Alexis Andre-Jr. 0-5.
85' | Rovers grab a late goal, as Kieron Phillips touches home a close-range rebound after Widdrington's initial effort came back off the post. 1-5.
87' | Phillips again on the scoresheet, as the substitute heads home from close-range. 2-5.
FT: Bristol Rovers 2-5 Plymouth Argyle

Looks like another defeat for Ben Garner's Bold New Gas. All 4 would have been disallowed if we had VAR
