eric, I note your comments but to say Tom Lockyer and Lee Brown were my scapegoats is nonsence. If you take the trouble to go through my reports ( I wouldn't blame you if you didn't want to!!) I am sure you will find that on many occasions both those players received good marks and reports. Only towards the end of his time with us was I critical regularly of Lee Brown and I think he himself would probably agree he was not at his best! As for Tom Lockyer I always felt his distribution was not up to much but he was a fine player which was shown by him making so many appearances and so young and on which I reported on most of them. I accept with Ollie Clarke that I have never rated him as a League 1 player although there was a spell last season around Christmas that I thought I would be proved wrong and looking like his better games were becoming more regular.Unfortunately the only thing that has become more regular have been the bookings which render him useless for the rest of the game!

Ollie Clarke was credited with 2 assist so I think you’ve marked him unfairly Two? Surely you can’t count the blocked shot as a deliberate assist?

What goal did Kilgour cost us? I presume he meant the first. The highlights don’t show it fully but my memory from the terrace was that AK made up a lot of ground to win a brave header, we had nobody to pick up the loose ball but they did and he went on to score. I wondered whether the keeper could have done better but watching it back the ball went through someone’s legs meaning he probably saw it late. IMO the second and third goals were worse. I think it was Rodman(?) who carelessly gave it away, the guy went through and was able to easily cut inside Craig before scoring. The third was when we were 11 v 10 and they still had an extra man down their left and Hare was a bit clumsy with the challenge which 32 made the most of with his theatrics.

All of which will be forgotten when we put in one decent performance and you eulogise over numerous players, oxford style who put in a decent performance every third match. Fact : our midfield is creatively s###. Fact: we arent that far off being half decent in this division. Sorry to be pedantic... but those are your opinions, and not facts. The former - I think pretty much everyone barring Graham Coughlan agrees with your opinion. Still doesn't make it fact though. The latter, I think it's a pretty small minority + Graham Coughlan who might agree with you.

We've seen much worse, but combination of a very poor show from Leahy and Hare with OC having one of his worst games in a good while meant it was bound to become ugly long ball with defence sitting too deep. We know all 3 are capable of better so let's hope GC can fix it. I'd also love to see him switch tactics when he needs to as that cost us 2 points yesterday which is a crying shame at home when we score 3 goals. Is it him or the inability of players I wonder. Onwards

Sorry to labour this point but that isn't an assist.

One assist for Clarke against Oxford (Nichols' goal) and one against Accrington (Rodman's goal).

Fully expected ollie Clarke to get sent off during his 10 minute back and fourth with Accrington's number 8. IMO He's got the ability for this level, but he's hot headed as his 10+ yellow cards a season prove.

Ollie Clarke is already on four bookings so we will soon find out how we get on without him. If he doesn't sort it out he'll be missing two and then three games later on in the season too.
Regarding Alfie's passing which has been highlighted here and on other threads - Lockyer got slated for his distribution, but looking at the comments on Charlton's Forum it seems that he has improved - probably the result of having players in their midfield that actually give options and want the ball, rather than ours which often gives the defence no option other than to lump it.
I hope that Jordi isn't the cause of our defence appearing shakier than normal as we will be without Jaakkola again in October.

It’s it just me, but I thought that he should have saved the first goal? Didn’t strike it very hard and not anywhere near the corner, the big fella just seemed to go down in instalments!

The problem is that if JCS has between 12 and 15 goals by Jan, we will flog him. Even if we get one million for him, the owners will just use the money to offset the losses, and instruct the football management to find another free player.

It will be a joke if we accept such a small amount can understand taking 3 million but 1 no way, he can get even better when fully fit, and can easily play higher

Not just you. I thought the same when I saw it, but maybe it's a bit harsh as the ball should never have got that far and it didn't exactly go through him. I guess it can't be easy getting down from that height!

Hell we could sell his toe nail clippings for more than that. Bumped into JCH this morning and told him that his second goal was good enough to have been from Christiano Ronaldo. Quite frankly Ronaldo on the best day he ever had would have been delighted with that overhead kick.

I’m not totally convinced by him yet but not sure why - will give him the benefit of the doubt until I’ve seen more. It was also his first game in a new country.
