What a poor display in front of one of our lowest attendances in ages. I really feel that the style of play as much as anything is killing our club and the reason for these low attendances. The silence of our owners is not helping things either and there is a grey mist surrounding everything about our football club at the moment. I would go as far as to say that this is the worst midfield we have had in many many years and we make even very poor teams like Accrington look good. How much longer I can travel away to watch this trash is questionable as even home games are becoming more of a chore each week. As soon as I saw the team sheet today I feared the worst with Ogogo and Ollie Clarke together and Rodman has hardly inspired this season.
I am sorry but I cannot be bothered to spend a lot of time on this because it makes me angry just thinking about the level of football played today after the opening ten minutes. It really made me ask myself whether the Manager really has a clue what he is doing. I feared the worst when he appointed Ollie Clarke as captain and those fears are now being realised as whilst it is hard to fault his love of the club he just totally lacks the drive and ability to play regular football at this level and unfortunately he is far from being the only one.
van Stappershoef 6 Did OK ,one outstanding save and stood little chance with the goals but there is just something about him that worries me.
Davies 6 Probably his worst game this season. Craig 6 Same as Davies. Kilgour 6 Did Ok but his problem is there is always a couple of mistakes in him and it again cost us a goal.
Hare 4 Pretty poor contribution today both going forward and more importantly defending. Was a shame because after the Coventry game where he was very poor he was starting to look good. Rodman 5 Scored early on which should have inspired him but he got worse and worse. Ogogo 5 battled away and did what he is good at but no creativity whatsoever and got totally outrun as the game went on. He needs better players around him to make the most of his tigerish tackling Clarke 3 After a useful start he faded into oblivion as has been the case most of this season. Too often he marked nobody and was too slow to keep up with the Accrington players. Sorry but he is League 2 standard and always will be and the Managers decision to appoint him Captain speaks volumes for the Manager as well I fear. Leahy 4 Poor, even when he had time he passed the ball backwards and showed little either defending or attacking.
Nichols 4 Disappointing Clarke-Harris 8 MOM God!!! What can I say - I would say he is at three quarters fitness but he is probably the one reason that we can stay up this season. he is like Roy of the Rovers and that is the biggest compliment I can pay him. The overhead kick was magic but really was out of place with the majority of the football played today.
Subs: Bennett 5 Flatters to deceive but really unlucky not to score in the last minute when he hit the bar. Smith 4 Even more lightweight than Nichols and a poor substitution.
GC- Dour like the football played. No plan B and a questionable Plan A.
Crowd 4 Lowest attendance in a long time but who can blame them- it is only going to go one way watching this defensive approach against even mediocre opponents. Ref 5 Penalty was questionable but probably deserved.Apart from that was distinctly average and missed too much. Accrington 5 Pretty poor side and a good team would have hammered them.
So we move on to a really tough game at Lincoln next week. I got my ticket before the game and have one for Wimbledon too but don't know if I can put up with many more games like today. A 3-3 draw should be exciting but watching us allow an awful side to dominate so much possession is depressing.

Not sure that’s true about the Ref. He didn’t miss that ball that zapped him.....🙄

" even home games are becoming more of a chore each week."
8 goals in last 3 home games - Oxford and Accie games - as entertaining L1 games as I can remember ! Too much negativity Steve - perhaps you shouldn't go and watch every game as it's clear we have no chance of promotion ! Of course we should've won today but full credit to Accie for the way they played and their outstanding no.7.

Won our last 2 at home before today, scoring 5 goals in the process. Think attendences are falling, because we have been in league one for a while now. Plus today Accrington brought no fans, so the attendance will look worse. Plus there was a lot of other sport on. With Ifollow etc, I bet a lot of fans would have watched it at home and watched other sport, before and after the game.

I have a 4 1/2 to 5 hour round trip for a home game and just can't muster the enthusiasm to go to every game recently which is unheard of for me. Something just doesn't feel right about the club atm on and off the pitch. As entertaining it may have seemed if you are local, I'm glad I wasn't driving back tonight after dropping points against a team that played better than us even with 10 men.

All of which will be forgotten when we put in one decent performance and you eulogise over numerous players, oxford style who put in a decent performance every third match.
Fact : our midfield is creatively s###.
Fact: we arent that far off being half decent in this division.

At Blackpool we started well, hit the post, but goals change games. Should have leveled against Coventry, if it was not for the ref. So we have not played that bad away. Don't think the manager is poor, his budget is still being taken up by DC's signings. The majority of his signings have been quite successful. Every manager will make some bad signings. I know a lot of people who watch every game on Ifollow now. That was not available so easily before, so will effect attendences. If you have other commitments and don't live near Bristol, it's easy to watch every game home and away.

To say Accrington were a poor side, is nonsense, would like some of their midfielders in our team, we should have gone to a flat back 4 with width one 1 of their players saw red

Maybe we're setting are sights a bit high it's the managers first full season and as for Stanley being a poor side I can't agree didn't they finish above us last season all be it by one point

Harsh mark for Ollie Clarke, as somebody else said he got two assists and had a few good driving runs forward, worth at least a mark in parity with his midfield partners.
Very frustrating game to watch though, at times we looked decent and other times absolutely clueless. However I did think the first two goals for Accrington were unfortunate, but I've not seen the highlights..

Maybe we're setting are sights a bit high it's the managers first full season and as for Stanley being a poor side I can't agree didn't they finish above us last season all be it by one point On yesterday’s evidence (rather than the league table) Accrington are not a poor side, however you are forgetting they only has ten men for half the game and we’re missing their two best players hence the fans frustration. No excuse for not going on to win in those circumstances.

Maybe a bit harsh and should have been a 4 but the fact is even with 10 men Accrington ran through our midfield unchallenged unless Ogogo put a foot in and a lot of this was purely down to the fact that Ollie Clarke is not good enough and is even worse because his slowness means he always or nearly always gets an early booking and then can't do the one thing he is best at-breaking up play. Now I accept that the slowness of build up is mainly down to the Managers tactics which are unworkable BECAUSE to play that game you need pace to get out when we do get the ball in our own half. We are slow and predictable and entertainment it certainly is not but we need at least 1 central midfielder to play possibly with Ogogo and Upson and a couple of wingers but there again I am not sure the Manager would play them!! Catch 22. It is a sad situation where a 3-3 draw cannot make up for an overall unenterprising performance and I stand by what I said that Accrington are poor but do have better players than us in certain positions. I would take their number 7 any day of the week!

Ollie Clarke was credited with 2 assist so I think you’ve marked him unfairly Tom Lockyer was last years scapegoat in SteveK’s match reports. Before that it was Lee Brown. if history repeats then we can expect Ollie Clarke to do well for his new club next season - either in the Championship or top end of League One!!!! i don’t get his criticism of Ogogo for having no creativity. I guess if we had Claude Makelele in his prime he’d get the same low mark for not scoring or getting assists!!

Steve I agree with 90 % of your report the thing that is annoying me is the dull football we play, so predictable we must be very easy for opposing teams to set up against us, the lowest crowd is a worry, but I do think this will be the norm for the rest of the season if we continue to play this way, as I said in my previous post Accrington were a much better footballing side and it wouldn't have suprised me if they had gone on to score a winner. There is as you say a cloud hanging over our club at the moment not knowing what the future is etc etc, this will have a detrimental effect on the support, as a long term supporter along with all of our fans we deserve better, I will keep hoping.
