I just wanted to point out that after 8 games, the team has achieved the best start since we returned to the EFL.
After 8 games: 2019 11 points 12th place 2018 5 points 22nd place 2017 9 points 15th place 2016 10 points 15th place 2015 (L2) 10 points 15th place
With this squad, I also think we have the capability of improving as we did in most of those seasons.

Bit of a different tone to last week when we drew 3-3 against our nemesis and it was all gloom and doom. We definitely have a better squad than we had at the beginning of last season, and should do better this season, but with the make up of the squad and our tactics any success will probably be without pretty football.

Not sure it was doom and gloom, just head scratching disbelief that we couldn't beat a below average team at home with more players for half the game.

The Graham Coughlan effect. Early days still but I think this squad is an improvement on the last couple of years.

Yes and he is still utilising a fair few of DC signings. It’s not even his squad yet.
Craig, Upson, Sercombe, Bennett and Nichols have all started under GC this year.
The football isn’t as pleasant to watch at times but if it keeps us away from the drop zone this year and gives him an opportunity to build something once he can shape his own squad then great.

Would also like to point out in these seasons we’ve gone on and finished at least 6 or 7 places higher...

And knowall of course, not that you will get a straight answer though more of a cryptic give us a clue kind of job.

My opinion is that I think GC has a certain amount and no more. He has said and a few times, that we have to go with what we have got. Who knows, he may be just fine with the squad he has and not be looking at it as his or DC’s team.

Thanks for doing that research. Yes it’s been a good start and I guess the more that midfield play together and gel the better. Being older I remember going back to the 60s and 70s when it was the opposite. We used to come flying out of the starting blocks and have a really good Autumn with good cup runs. Late 60s and early 70s it was unusual for us not to make the 3rd round of the cup. Then we would get progressively slower as the season went on. Recently, as you’ve shown, it’s been the opposite so this year it’s good to have a “best” start for ages. UTG!

To be fair to GC he hasn’t been chucking that stat about in interviews, Darrell loved to talk about we had the best home form in the country after we were thumped 4-0 away to someone to beef himself up.. GC is down to earth and no thrills and where we are financially and our club structure status he’s suiting us as I can’t be a easy job to do. Fair play to him and let it carry on til the end of the season, as long as we stay in this league then he’s done his job

Do you think he will get the financial backing to make it his own ? I think he has already been backed financially but GC also has to work within the framework of SCMP and the owners also have to stem the £65k losses as well as support the playing budget. GC has got a good few players on big contracts and also other players were on appearance +1 contracts and it has stymied his transfer activity. This summer 3-4 will be out of contract which he can either move on or offer reduced terms to. I said back in July that it will be next summer where we can really see a GC team. The next window in January will be almost the same as August unless a couple decide to move.

UTG! best start in ages - yeah, but overall it's still only an average start - 3 wins and 3 losses. fairly happy with it though.

It will be a much better side when (if) THD comes back and Leahy is relegated to the bench.

Partly, that is why I posted. I have my theories, but I can't quite understand why there is so much doom and gloom around when we are doing relatively well on the field.
I'll leave the organising of the bus to Rich, but I'm definitely a willing passenger.

Best start for some time & still unbeaten at home in the league. Yet some are choosing to ‘stay away’ from fixtures at The Mem. Incredible.

I don’t think op was saying it’s a fantastic start just that it’s the “best” start. Just goes to show how poor most of our starts have been over recent seasons. And considering all the gloom and doom surrounding this forum it was good to see a positive thread with a bit of hope imo. it’s an ok start. I’ll settle for that. UTG!
