I’ll let you know what I’m enjoying this year, getting a point or 3 and not looking at the league table to see if it’s got us out the relegation zone hoping that a few other teams have slipped up around us. We are 8th after 10 games by being organised and structured. Agreed it’s not easy on the eye at times but it’s effective and it will give momentum to the squad and raise everyone’s game knowing we are in with a shout. Funnily enough watching Sheffield United on motd their shape looked just like ours with the banks of players very disciplined when out of possession, not pleasing on the eye but very structured style of football and we are creating chances, so a big positive, hope the stay awayers come back soon. We are doing better than I thought so happy.

I haven't been to a game this season so just going by the posts on here via matchday threads etc. but from the side I'd much rather us be in this position with poor football than fighting relegation playing a bit more attractively.

I enjoy every match. Mostly it's because I get to sit there feeling smug because I am being continually proved right about Tony Craig and Ed Upson. To be fair everybody who said Upson was poor for us up until Christmas was bang on. He has been very good since Cogs took over and Craig too hasn’t had so many mistakes in him this season. Having the taller two center backs either side has helped I think. I’m enjoying it , the thing that’s made it a bit drab for me is the atmosphere which has generally been poor but that’s because loads aren’t turning up and very few that do sing or chant. But I’m doing my bit. This is spot on and TC is looking less exposed by having some young legs around him and as a result his strength as a general in the back line becomes an advantage.

Norwich on the other hand, who play lovely football and just beat MC the week before 3-2, lost 2-0 at Burnley who pulled them about all over the place and were disorganised at the back all game.

They're not playing poor football, don't believe that crap. Poor football was last season under Clarke. In fact it wasn't just poor, it was dire. Players have more freedom now, the ball gets moved on quicker, we have two forwards who make things happen up front and another who's actually scoring after three seasons. Craig and Upson have been given a new lease of life and have shown what good players they are since they've been unshackled from Clarke's tight control. Agogo's a powerhouse in midfield, Little and Hare have been a revelation, and Yaak-oola ain't a bad goalie either.

This season to date is our best start since returning to league one in 2016.
10 games 2016/17 - 13 pts, 3 wins, 3 losses, 4 draws. 10 games 2017/18 - 12 pts, 4 wins, 6 losses, 0 draws. 10 games 2018/19 - 9 pts, 2 wins, 5 losses, 3 draws. 10 games 2019/20 - 15 pts, 4 wins, 3 losses, 3 draws.
GC has now managed 35 league games for the Gas and winning 14 (40%), losing 9 (25.71%) and drawing 12 (34.29%) (total of 54 points).
for clarity DC's league one record was 113 games, winning 38 (33.63%), losing 47 (41.59%), drawing 28 (24.78%) (total of 162 points).

If GC and the team win more than they lose this season, then that would be a successful season for me ! Then the season after go for top 6.

I found myself daydreaming this morning about being top eight come January, would we then see any investment into the squad to sustain a promotion push?
And the big question I asked myself is, are we still ‘crying out for a creative centre mid’?

Proof positive that the coughlan style and how sheff utd played for one away game is the way to go. Meanwhile the norwich method is totally wrong clearly in your view.

We are doing better than I thought so happy. Wilder likes his central defenders to make attacking runs. GC is friends with Wilder and I've noticed all three of our central defenders have been making runs. Craig never left his allotted territory under Clarke. Got his tackle in and cleared. He's making loads of runs this season. A completely different player, as is Upson who is far more attacking now.

Proof positive that the coughlan style and how sheff utd played for one away game is the way to go. Meanwhile the norwich method is totally wrong clearly in your view. You must be seeing things because thats not what I have said. The Norwich model is based on scoring 1 more goal than the opposition, which is attractive to see, high press, expansive attacking football. They effectively beat MC at their own game. However that invites pressure onto your defence and it means that conceeding goals has a higher probability. Problem with that method is if you dont take your chances or your strikers have an off day then you can end up losing heavily. Playing like Sheff U though means that the football is very defensive and may be dull to watch and you have to take your chances when you get them, which means you probably wont have many. But, it can guarantee you a point or even nick a win. No way is the "right" way, its just different methods. GC plays a very structured system which can be less attractive to watch than the early DC years. That said its proving very successful, making us hard to beat at home and giving us a chance away.

We will still rely on too much in my view on the big boot upfield from our 3 CB's rather than them trying to play it out from the back. Fans seem to be getting confused between our away and home form, as most home League games this season have been frustrating to watch. Wycombe was a shocker Tranmere we laboured to beat 9 men Oxford was a good match thanks to the MT factor Accrington we managed to let 10 men get an equaliser dispute JCH's worldy. Gillingham, we let them control most of the 2nd half. So it's only the Oxford & Tranmere games where we've left reasonably happy at the final whilst, the other 3 just glad the games finished when they did.

A 40 % win ratio must put him around the top of our all time best managers win record ?

That does surprise me. I'm just not getting the feeling that this side is good enough for a promotion push, but the numbers don't lie.

A pathetic post. All you've done on this forum since DC was sacked and GC appointed his successor is criticise and moan. The Club, The Manager, The Players and even Supporters don't need your type of negativity around the place. Why don't you do yourself a favour and everyone else associated with The Club and stay away - perhaps you are already. He can't even load his supermarket trolley properly ffs. We're doing ok - embrace it - preferably from your sofa.

Strange how we supported the promotion winning, no frills functional style of play in 73/74 and 89/90 but now complain that we're not entertaining enough?

If the critical comments came from a fair minded poster i would take more notice. but not from a poster that sniped at and put down the previous manager at every opportunity both during and after his reign as manager. Talk about a fu**ing hypocrite.
