...it will obviously mean F all in terms of final position, however...
I have a feeling there will be a lot of comments about us not be good enough to go up, not ready for it, will get thrashed every week, stadium not good enough...
A lot of these people will have been moaning about the football not being good enough under GC, and questioning whether he’s the right man for the job.
So I’m a bit confused, if the impossible were to happen and we were in the play offs at the end of the season, what would these people actually want?

I would want us to go up.
Even if we got thumped in every game, just being in the Championship for a season would do the club the world of good.
You get £4m more in prize money, increased exposure, TV money for the games against City and some cracking away games to visit.
Plus there’s always the chance we may delay the inevitable and somehow manage to stay up for a couple of seasons like Burton or Rotherham have done in the past.

The majority of supporters would be delighted and not worried about whether or not we could hold our own in the Championship. The moaners, of course, would say the ground isn't up to it, the players are all not good enough Wael/"whoever takes over the club" doesn't have any vision, we need more funds to compete (excepting the £3m extra TV money of course!).
I'm with the "would be delighted" faction personally.

It's highly unlikely we will go up. However my fear if we did would be how would we sustain it? What wages would we offer? Because if we started paying championship wages (which realistically we would need to to compete), and then were to get relegated, we could be in a very sticky situation (look at Yeovil). That being said, of course I'd take it and love it.

And massive, huge increase in the wage bill - unless we are happy with most of our players being signed by other clubs, and would be happy with only being able to sign players on a third of the wages of any other Championship players.
There's a reason why almost all clubs in the Championship make a loss. It's a financial basketcase.

IMHO we strive to win every game and if at seasons end we find ourselves in the championship then so be it, we got there while at Twerton, so ground is not a barrier, it may be for one season but we would enjoy the ride ,just like a lot of teams have enjoyed there one season in the promised land of the premier league, can only be good for the club AS LONG AS FANS KEEP THERE FEET ON THE GROUND !! and do not start expecting to reach the promised land !!!

I think L1 is pretty poor this season and i've seen almost every side in it as I normally take in 3-4 English games a week. Even Ipswich didn't look anything special when I saw them and we have already seen dodgy results for Sunderland and Posh, hell even Wycombe are riding high which sums it up for me. Promotion is wide open - I still don't think we are good enough but there has never been a better opportunity since we have been back.

If we managed it, I’d actually like us to be as prudent as possible and try and stem the losses whilst we’re there. A bit like Accrington and Wimbledon have been doing in L1
We won’t have the best budget and chance of staying up on spend alone even if we spent to limit. So we would be wise to try and make some shrewd low cost signings of underdog players for an underdog side, with the hope we collectively surprise.

Hypothetically, I would celebrate promotion just like any other Gashead would. However I would have very real concerns over a club in a state such as ours being in the Championship.
The gap between the Championship and L1 is a chasm these days. The wagebills in that league are obscene, and if we were to stand any chance at all of staying up then we would have to spend money unsustainably just like every other Championship club does. The danger is that having even a single season of Championship-level spending but with no guarantee we would even compete on the pitch, could put the future of the club at risk. Contracts would have to be very sensible in terms of paycuts after relegation etc etc.
Remember Yeovil in the Championship were so out of their depth that they became a laughing stock and they nosedived back down to the Conference, undoing all their progress from years previous.
Also similarly in the Prem the likes of Derby, Huddersfield last season, Wolves under McCarthy/Connor a few years back, are proof that getting spanked every week soon makes you forget the joy of being at that level. It's fact, losing constantly is not nice, and can set a rot in place as Huddersfield are currently experiencing. Momentum in football is a big thing in my view, and negative momentum is just as big a danger as positive momentum is a powerful force for some teams.
Having said all that, IF we went up I would be excited to see how our club could cope and how it would change, but this excitement would be tempered by all these concerns as above.

Getting promotion is worth in total an extra 7 million a season, that was last years estimate, could half our debt, but more importantly it would put more pressure on the owners to get the stadium issue sorted, it would show how dedicated the owners are, we could either stay as we are at the Mem and struggle in the championship eventually being relegated or with an improved / new stadium and investment move forward. I have said for along time to get a new stadium we need to promoted to the Championship as it would make a stadium project more viable.

I'd take getting battered every week for a season of away days to places like Sheffield, Leeds, etc. Plus of course a couple of derby games in there.

Go up of course. Other than the big matches every week and the nail biting relegation scrap it would massively increase our chances of being bought by someone who could afford to spend money on a stadium for us.

There's enough basket case clubs in the Championship that any club good enough to get promotion from League 1 has a decent chance of staying up.

Although I do think that we’re some way off being good enough to get promotion. I still think we’ll finish just above mid table if we keep JCH and just below if if we lose him.
