I simply believe coughlan is being pragmatic in his approach regarding tom nichols. He cannot offload him until the end of the season so he may as well use him until then. He is capable of playing deeper in away games than both the loan strikers which i think has helped him to get unlikely starts ahead of adebayo. I think the manager has got it wrong starting him in the last 2 games since the JCH injury but i can see his thinking behind it. The style of football we play with coughlan really needs a target man but we have not got any fit target men so we have a problem right now. Exactly as I see it. Cogs has got most things right since he took over but he’s going to get the odd thing wrong. He is human. I said in a post last week we have only 1 way of playing and if an important part of that is not available we dont have a plan B. Despite our position I believe we will struggle this season.

And just to compound Nicholls uselessness, did you see his reaction to missing the penalty? He gave a comedy 'shucks' arm wave, like he really couldn't give a toss. And the penalty, he rolled it along the ground, down the middle of the goal and straight into the keepers midriff. No power, no direction. Whatever was he thinking? I reckon he was thinking "I don't give a toss, I get 3 grand a week and another grand for playing, and I'm getting that till the summer, where Ill get a free transfer and negotiate another 3 year deal somewhere else. He clearly and obviously doesn't give a toss. So, you are not prepared to face up to Nichols with your abuse. I am not surprised as Coughlan would gladly put you back in your box.

I watched it on Quest last night and they said "he has a record of scoring 4 goals in 83 league games". What other club would put up with that? As for his contract, I was told 3 and 1/2 years when he signed. Why don't we give him to Walsall? Nobody who signs in the summer has an odd half year tagged on to their contract.

To Add my opinion , a striker is signed for a club to score goals, , not because he is a nice guy or he works hard on and off the pitch,TN goals to games ratio is simply just embarrassing, and how many times has he been caught offside this season? .( Many a time out wide looking along the back line. A lot players sign for a club and they try hard to fit in,and try to impress, and it just don’t work out for them.Sadly for Tom this is the case .I believe his weeks with the club are fading fast.He needs to move on . For his sake and the The fans sake

One more page than the thread about our all time record appearance holder passing away. State of this.

We beat MK without him, although small margins admittedly. I reckon we will be okay without him but if he stays with us and stays fit that will decide how close to the top end of the table we get. Really don’t see that there is any grounds for optimism about actual promotion though. I’ll be the first to eat humble pie if proved wrong though.

Andy Williams never really lived up to expectations after a big money move but still managed to make a career after we let him leave on a free.

A couple of points regarding Tom Nichols:
1. Any amount of personal abuse levelled at Tom is simply unacceptable. No Rovers player should be vilified by our supporters. We are there to support the team not undermine them. 2. Sadly, the time has arrived to end the misery. Whatever the reason, it hasn't worked out for him at Rovers and continuing to play him is simply negating opportunities for other strikers. Let's face it, Tom has had numerous opportunities to score some goals and he hasn't delivered under either DC or GC.
Some strikers lose form with clubs and need a new challenge to reignite their careers. On the other hand, some strikers perform much better than expected at a particular club (eg JCH).
His future career at Rovers should be limited to, at best, substitute appearances. Loan him out in January and try to partially reduce his burden on the wage bill. No doubt he will be released next June. Let's face it, it's inconceivable that he will be here next season.
He came to us with great expectations from our fan base. It hasn't worked out for either the club or Tom. Sad.

WTF are you on about? people not allowed an opinion that you don't agree with, so you're going to get someone else to put me in my box? You need to grow up and stop styling yourself all hard on someone else's behalf.

I wasnt there so cannot say whether it's correct, but my mate said Tom's partner left the stand due to the insults and abuse yesterday, this if true is clearly unacceptable, he is talented but for some reason he has not scored the goals for us. The footage of him at Exeter shows him as a good finisher but has struggled and probably best for all if he remains on the bench and used occasionally. He never chose to miss the pen, but would have let Smith take it.

I am delighted that you have toned it down regarding Tom Nichols - abuser to amuser. Give yourself a gold star for effort.

How can being called a lady garden be racist? are there a race of lady gardens out there somewhere in Devon? Do try to understand what I have written. Abuse of Tom Nichols is unacceptable and racial abuse is unacceptable.

If th gold star comment was aimed at me then it doesn't apply I'm afraid. You really are a snowflake. Once again WTF are you on about?

Highly doubt anyone else is gonna give him a 3 year contract given his stats for us since we signed him, wouldn't be too shocked to see him drop down to league 2/national league tbh.

Absolute waste of space and money and as has been the case for two seasons - not a striker Why oh why did he or was allowed to take the penalty You are talking utter rubbish again IMHO Tom is by far the most technically gifted player at the club - FACT and did the two replacement players that came on during the game do any better - No Bennett is and always will be a complete waste of space and has to be moved on in January

Strange how Tom's technically gifted skills how failed to see him score when put clean through on many occasions since he has been at the club and failed to convert any. (Apart from the passback by an opposition player when he was played onside) In my opinion he may well be able to win a keepy uppy contest but as a striker, he is physically weak, has no power when it comes to shooting and without doubt his record since being at the club proves he has been a failure.

Not quite sure why it is said he has failed as a striker lets playing him as an attacking midfield option. He wouldn't be any cop at that imo. Its time for pastures new. This bloodyminded attitude 'cause he cost a few quid we must stick with is baffling. We have given him a go, and its time he tried somewhere else. Id have Reilly back in a flash over Tom. It hasn't worked which is a shame but we have had better strikers in the past that haven't had anywhere near the opportunities he has been given.
