Never saw Martyn play for us. And I only remember Parkin playing a few times on his return. So perhaps the best perm for 20 years? Don't think either Martyn or Parkin had a perm. So, who has?

Since 1996? Phillips won the golden gloves in 2007; he was the best keeper in the football league that season and statistically better than any of the premier league keepers. Yeah- I'd guess hes the debate. Maybe Miller could be included. Not much of a debate. One was recognised as the best goalkeeper in England when he was playing for us and the other has made 12 league appearances, conceded 12 goals and kept 4 clean sheets.

Jaakola has not earned the right to lace up Nigel Martyn or Jim Eadies boots up yet

The only similarity between Martyn and Jaakkola is that they are both finnish(ed) internationals.

He is a great Keeper. Nowhere near Martyn tbh. How about another question, Is Jaakkola the best in our division ?. I say yes.

I don’t remember Martyn not really as I was too young.
Parkin was very good as was Phillips but Jakkola is proving a very good signing for this level.

Back to the subject, Jaakola is a great line goalkeeper. His shot stopping is superb, however he doesn't command his box. That flaw in his game is why he's with us.

Nigel Martyn was by. a million miles the best keeper we’ve had in my time watching the Gas. 1st £1M keeper. Was a pretty good deal for Rovers. Brian Parkin was a fantastic replacement. He would be my favourite. Although he couldn't deal with pass backs

Although he couldn't deal with pass backs It did for a lot of keepers, we got 2 years pre-Backpass Rule with Brian. To quote someone who did see the crossover from Martyn to Parkin "The biggest compliment I could give Brian, is that we didn't miss Nigel".

Brian PArkin was a great replacement for Nigel Martyn. I heard it quoted that he was the best keeper outside the top tier. His dpownfall turned out to be the introduction of the back pass rule... or was it a "few bevvies down Cadillacs"? ;-)

Yes, if he became more commanding and a bit better on the ball he’d be a championship keeper. Really impressed with him and hopefully he can keep improving. 🔵

I probably start remembering Rovers games from 96ish. That's a span of 23 years so let's round it- 25. We've had some decent keepers in that time but generally the better ones were loans. It might be early but I think Anssi could be the best permanent keeper weve had. Sadly, it's not compliment it should be... But Keep it up Anssi. Jaakkola hasn’t made a mistake and has kept us in the game in at least 2 matches ie. Pomp and Wombles away. Stopashot has also done OK in the time he has had. No mistakes so far. In recent years, Bonham was the best, Jaakkola too early to tell if he IS the “finished” article? Lumley and Roos made too many mistakes, both in higher divisions now. Mildenhall - rarely camoout of 6 yard box. Martyn and Eadie the best to date from 70s?

Good to see Finland have qualified for their first major tournament. Might see our Anssi at the Euros in the summer!
