BEP article stating GC is taking training this morning but he is certain to be gone. Mansfield are expected to make a 2nd approach and the relationship between GC & the board has broken down. The board are shocked at how unhappy he is as he knew the circumstances when he signed a contract, so they feel like he’s stabbed them in the back. Widdrington & Starnes held an emergency meeting with Wael online yesterday to discuss ways forward. They want an experienced L1 manager who will carry on GCs work and hit the ground running. I have to say, I’m losing a lot of respect for GC. I'm going to really try and bite my tongue until it's confirmed, but make no mistake, I'm preparing both barrels for GC. What I don't understand is why he's back in training? The bloke should be whacked on gardening leave with immediate effect. Shows pathetically weak leadership from the top in my opinion. No wonder he/Mansfield are walking all over us! Thought I seen GC coming out the winterbourne camp this morning in a Range Rover towing a caravan heading up north so he can’t be.

We've no idea if he's actually going to be allowed to take training should he even turn up, I doubt the BP reporter his getting a blow by blow account of what's being said to GC by the club.

The thing is, he could well have killed his career with that interview.
Surely his position here is now untenable and if he goes to Mansfield there is no guarantee that he will hit that magic formula he has with us.
Football is all about reputation and momentum and just sometimes getting lucky. Having just the right players and a bit of luck. money. I'm sure many managers will admit everything only aligns a handful of times in their careers.
To shoot himself in the foot when right on the brink of something that could have made his name is utterly bizarre. My take on things.
Is he set to earn more elsewhere? Is he looking for an improved contract at Rovers?

Ok, i've held my council on this over the weekend....
I can Understand him wanting more time with his family, i know how he feels having done it for 3 years doing weekend commuting back to Bristol From Stevenage
What i can't understand is his method of "announcing" his intentions to the world, that's just strange.
I have to give respect to him for his footballing abilities and what he has done for our club but his interpersonal skills are more akin to a child not a top flight football manager
Thank you for what you have done GC, Now just go so we can get somebody in who won't water off at the first bit of success....

My guess is that he was not necessarily looking to move this season, but was approached by Mansfield with a big offer which turned his head. He cannot say that publicly as it would constitute an illegal approach, so he therefore had to manufacture other reasons for not being happy (I suspect this started a few weeks ago when his press conferences were hinting at unhappiness). All those other reasons don't really hold water since he presumably knew the state of play when he signed the contract. I guess he was then informed of the sacking of the Mansfield manager and panicked in his after match interview by stupidly announcing he 'had a decision to make'. So by that time Mansfield had clearly offered him something, which confirms an illegal approach. OK, he will go, we all know that, but I really hope we can screw Mansfield for the maximum possible compensation.

It seems that the BP are reporting he told players he was leaving after the game to join an unnamed League Two club (so Mansfield) - to have the nerve to do that when, at that point, an approach from them hadn't even been accepted... utterly disgraceful.
We should indeed get a very good amount of compensation, but I really, really hope we sue the f**k out of Mansfield too. Clearly something very, very, very underhand going on in all of this.

I think those that never warmed to him feel well and truly vindicated today. You can tell from his interviews that he is an inlikeable sod- remember how everyone thought his comment about Celtic was just hi-jinks? It was crass and a perfect example of how he hasn’t got a clue in front of the media like on Saturday. He insinuated Reilly had no stomach for a fight by leaving and then he pulls a stunt like this? He’s a piece of work and it.’s a shame we won’t be playing Mansfield any time soon because he deserves to be boo’ed to **** for this.

Deals are conducted behind the scenes via agent talk so that when the approach is made the approaching club knows what the manager is looking for. I’ll bet that he may not have said anything to the club about being unhappy but as we have risen the table his agent has been agitating for a pay day and letting other clubs now he would be willing to move north for the right price. Remember over the summer, the Plymouth rumours, we thought he was going to leave then. He’s probably been on the look out for another job for a while.

I was on a real high watching the game on ifollow and seeing how the supporters and players came together after the match. That was all snatched away after Coughlan interview and it ruined the rest of my weekend. Question How do we think this will impact the team has the undoubted team spirit been generated by them ,Coughlan or a combination of both?

Question How do we think this will impact the team has the undoubted team spirit been generated by them ,Coughlan or a combination of both? It will depends who they replace him with. They could opt for a more ‘cerebral’ operator like Nathan Jones but could maybe lose the passion and motivation of GC (that was his strength because we know it wasn’t tactics) or they could promote from within to try and maintain the ingredients that have got them running through brick walls. It sounds like they want a man with league one experience. That could be dangerous as a new man trying to get them to play a different style could see us spend the next half of the season in patchy form as we adjust and we end up mid to lower mid table. Also look at JCH, didn’t do well at Coventry (although played in a wider role) there is the outside chance that a new man fails to get the best out of him with a new style of football. It’s all a very delicate balance.

It's like he was carrying on like normal, but then thought I can't lie,I have to say something.
