I am unclear what makes some people really not want Holloway as manager.
I was an active supporter when he was our player, but I think I was raving and partying when he was manager so don't remember his tenure.
Why are some so anti- Holloway?

I think it boils down to the fact that even if he is a legend of this football club in many peoples eyes, most fans want a young, hungry manager to take the reigns and that just isn't him. We've had 'experienced' managers who look great on paper before and it hasn't worked for them, where as in the recent past we've had young managers trying to prove themselves (DC & GC) and it's worked out pretty well for us, one of them gaining 2 promotions and the other getting us up to fourth in the league from a relegation fight the previous season.

I am put off by the circus around it. I want Bristol rovers to be about the players not the manager. His record in recent years is poor and if he wasn’t a former player and a gashead he wouldn’t be anywhere near the speculation.

Too many middle aged men wishing to live their 30’s again through a Holloway led Rovers. Francis, John Ward, I don’t fancy a hat trick of second time failure. As has been mentioned, it would be a media circus and all about the man rather than the club. Which, some desperately need reminding, no one is bigger than.

As above poster has mentioned, his record of late hasn't been good.
For some people, December is a time for reflection and wistfulness. I believe the only reason he is in demand on this forum is because of frustration borne from lack of direction at the top, and people want to see someone who they think is one of their own in charge of the players.
Do I think Holloway has good memories of being at Rovers? Yes. Is he any more Gashead than QPR or other club? No.
I remember the Holloway Out banners.

Hudson. Exactly. Its blokes in their 40s and 50s who still hanker for the tote who still think he is the anti city fan like he was in the 80s. Lifes moved on he was a great player for us had a go as a manager for us and now is a bloke who belongs in the past.

Honest question....if he wants it as much as he makes out why doesn’t he stick his CV in like everyone else?

Here's the answer from todays BP "webchat", basically he's got no chance:
Hi Ted, maybe I’m sounding naive but I’ve actually been surprised at the level of support for Ian Holloway. A complete legend he may be - as manager and a human - he just doesn’t fit for a number of reasons.
If you remove from the emotion and history from the situation, which is difficult, but please try: first and foremost, he is a manager who believes in absolute autonomous control over transfers and will want sole say over who and what he can sign. He just won’t get that in this current model with Tommy Widdrington who, I think you’ll all agree, has earned the right to reshape this squad given his excellence over the previous two windows.
Then you get into the political aspects of it all. He’s been critical of the board previously and was again on Saturday (when he brought up Darrell Clarke’s sacking again, without being prompted). For Rovers to succeed the manager *has* to maintain a strong relationship with the board, and in particular Wael Al-Qadi, Martyn Starnes and Tommy Widdrington. If they don’t, everything will come crashing down. There’s just too much conjecture and doubt over that.
Finally, there is probably a feeling that while Holloway would be an outstanding PR coup and get people through the door and win over a sizeable proportion of the fanbase, in terms of the Xs and Os, can he still manage a League One club with limited resources when his last three jobs have been Championship and above. It’s easy to say, yes, but when you’re used to working at a specific level, that brings its own expectations and requirements that Rovers couldn’t reach. His knowledge of the league will be good ... but how good? Certainly not as strong as other candidates.
Let’s also not forget that this process has been conducted via a formal application and interview process and Holloway, quite simply, hasn’t applied.

It’s like cloth being the best England manager that never was, Ollie would run the club top to bottom, I would love him to put a consortium together to buy the club then manage it himself

Still let’s ignore their views. Actually why not just get shot of them altogether? Let the younger fans take over. Who needs crowds of over 1500 fans - Accrington get by ok.

If our 60+ age group stopped supporting the club, there would be a notable reduction in crowds and that's a fact.

Lifes moved on he was a great player for us had a go as a manager for us and now is a bloke who belongs in the past. It's not about who he supports (although I can assure you, he is most definitely a Gashead). It's looking at who might be available at this moment in time. Assuming we don't want to pay to release someone from their current contract (which rules out quality candidates such as Nigel Clough, for example), we need to either appoint from within or look at those who aren't currently employed. Forget the Rovers fan thing for a moment. Let's look at Holloway as a football manager. He has considerable experience at this level and the level above. He has won promotion from this level and the level above. He knows enough about to the club to suggest he won't need that 'bedding in' period most managers would need while assessing where to strengthen. He has contacts at all levels. His standing and experience should garner respect from the players. He is known for playing good football (although I suspect he is now pragmatic enough not to try and instantly change everything). He has unfinished business here, which I would guess provides his motivation. And above all, football is an entertainment business. When he was manager before, we believed in the dream. It didn't come true (and in truth, was never going to, whoever the manager), but it was damned good fun while it lasted and many would look back on it as one of the most exciting Rovers teams they saw. Let's live a little...!
