Will be quite interesting to see if the new manager continues with Tom Nicholls as a striker, before anyone starts i am not knocking TC, i like him as a player and i think he may perform better played in a role where the pressure is not on him to score every time he plays, after all there have been lots of players in the past that have signed for teams who have been bought as strikers defenders etc only to change positions with success. UTG !

He is technically a very good footballer and I think he will develop Nicho I'm very excited by his appointment, it is a gamble but I think he has good contacts well respected and should get us some good loans in, from his mate Jose, palace and the baggies.

I don't think any other side is going to pay the wages he's on with us so it's more than likely he's staying put for atleast the end of the season, makes sense to actually try and unleash his talent than just keep him on the bench and out of the side.

Actually I’d prefer him out of the side and very little to change between now and the end of the season. But we’ll see.

Waste of wages IMO. Could potentially get two bodies in the door for the price of one Bennett. Get him gone.

Makes me laugh when people talk about Tom Nichols using words like "develop" and "potential". Tom Nichols is 26 years old, he's been a professional footballer for nearly 9 years. He's not some 17 year old kiddie straight out of the academy. If you think his "potential" will "develop" after two and a half seasons here under two different managers ... I dunno what to tell you.

Yeah he probably won’t improve but he’s one of many in form players at the moment and if Garner picks him on Boxing Day would I be surprised? Definitely not. Would that be 5 managers in a row that have picked him including caretaker roles ? Definitely yes.

JCH was not a prolific striker until he came to the Mem. GC unlocked his potential at 25. Maybe Ben Garner can offer a way to unblock whatever obstacle is in Tom Nichols way, I hope so because Tom is clearly a gifted player.

Jamie Vardy didn't play in the Football League until he was 25. The same with Barry Hayles with us. Jay DeMerit was on the books of 7th tier Northwood at the age of 24, but signed for Watford and made over 200 appearances in the Championship and Premier League. Plenty of late developers in the game. www.90min.com/posts/5159356-rags-to-riches-9-of-football-s-late-bloomers

He made his name at Exeter, having two decent seasons before moving to Peterborough. There he didn’t set the world alight but equally he didn’t do badly finishing their top scorer on 13 goals. Then with us he’s scored 4 goals in 2 and a half seasons and is approaching 100 games scoring less goals than someone like Gaffney scored in 20 odd appearances. To me that’s a tale of gradual decline rather than indicating he’s going to become a late developer. Jamie Vardy might of made the big time late but at least he consistently scored goals at every level he’s played at. Nichols is not as bad as some people make him out to be but for me he needs to move on elsewhere and find his form in front of goal again.

Wouldn’t it be the rovers way if Garner transforms Nichols into a goal machine and then Nichols leaves on a free because his contract is up.
