Brunt has played in 5 matches for York in L2 - so he must be match fit now.
All our forwards are misfiring and I presume Cunny is going back soon anyway.
I think it's time to give Brunt a (last ) chance - is he still hungry to play for The Gas ? If he is, he's the best forward we've got by a long way.
If he plays well we will then know he's still up for it - nothing to lose and possibly lots to gain . Being the FA Cup and little chance of getting very far.
What do the rest of you think ?

Hungry or not, he probably doesn't have much choice.
Option one, play and start scoring and become a hero. Option two, play and start scoring and get transferred.
I'm still bemused as to why York took him on loan, given he hadn't played for a while. They must have been desperate for an attacker.

Will he play on Saturday? Based on the fact he was loaned out to a team in a league above it makes me think he won't be here for too much longer, would we cup-tie him when we're probably hoping someone will come in for him in January?
Looked a very good player when he signed but has lost his way a bit through injury. We really need someone with a physical presence in this league IMO, with Cunnington going back soon I'd like to think we already have a ready made replacement in Brunt but from what I seen of him this/last season I have my doubts about him unfortunately.

But this is what I don't get. He's not playing for us, but can get a game in League 2.
Will a league club take a punt on a player who's had serious injury, and can't get a game in the conference?

Don't think cup-tied will be an issue for any L1 or L2 teams - they know they aren't going to get very far in the cup !?

If he doesn't get any minutes I will be disappointed. If he's interested we know he's got the game to seriously trouble Tranmere and Conference defences.

Agree with starting him on Saturday.
Taylor isn't producing and Cunnington is going back soon, so it'd be worth using Saturday's cup game to see if Brunt is looking any sharper after his loan spell IMO. Theoretically, he should be able to perform Cunny's target man duties once he's gone back to Cambridge, and also offer more pace & movement than Cunnington does. Certainly pre-injury Brunt would have been a monster in the Conference.
Brunt-White or Brunt-Harrison for me.

Thing is he hasn't looked interested since Ward first returned. What has changed that will make him be now?

With one outfield goal between them do White & Taylor look any more "interested"?

Unfortunately it doesn't exactly seem like he set the world alight at York. I reckon if I was Jamie White and I'd waited patiently for my chance of an extended run in the first team I'd be a bit hacked off to see Brunt waltz straight back into the side.
I get the argument about playing a targetman but there's also a revolutionary theory about playing it on the deck we could try at some stage!

Can't agree with that I'm afraid. Apart from a few games when he first arrived Brunt has looked one of the worst strikers I've seen in a Rovers shirt in my 30 years watching the Gas. It makes me laugh how some people see him as this wonderful player who is head and shoulders above other strikers at this level if and when he's fully fit. Based on what? Brunt hasn't scored a single goal in his last 29 appearances for Rovers dating back to 12th March 2013. He's also failed to score in 6 appearances for York. Okay some of those appearances were as a sub but it's still 35 games without a goal! His record would be poor for a centre back, for a striker it's a joke. Not only has he not scored but his performances have been at best poor and more often awful. The reports coming back from York suggest he hasn't improved or looked like scoring and it's therefore no surprise they didn't want to extend his loan. The last 2 occasions he played for Rovers I said we'd have been better playing with 10 men he was that bad. If by some miracle he proves me wrong I'm happy to eat some humble pie but I don't see any future for Brunt at Rovers.

Those stats are just astonishing. Hattie Jacques would do better, based on that.

He scores less goals then Taylor and adds less to the team.
Gasheads got fooled by one small spell of good form, wouldn't be anywhere near starting for me.
Hope i'm wrong though.

It was longer than a small spell. He was outstanding for a young guy of 18/19 against players like Coles and Steve Eliottt who couldn't cope with him. Did he score a lot ? No, but neither is anyone else at the club. If he is fit and hungry he will be a massive handful for conference defenders. I heard this season he was doing nothing when he came on - that is why I said If he'es up for it ??

I think I would prefer to see either White, who does have a good scoring record at this level and has scored in the last two reserve games, or even young Lucas who was prolific out on loan in the league below.
What we need now is someone who can finish chances. I don't care if his build up play or running is not great as long as he scores goals! We have had too many players who are 'good at bringing others into the game' or 'good at running the channels' but all I want now is a goalscorer! Brunt isn't that.

Catch 22 for DC now as if he doesn't play Brunt is any other club really going to be interested in taking him off our hands after his goal less spell at York? It seens DC either plays him or asks NH to pay off his contract to at least free up some cash, assuming Brunt will accept a deal to move on early.
Brunt gives the inpression he's hungry/interested by going to the states to get fit in the summer and also making the long move to York on loan.
