The EFL appeal against the lenient suspended points deduction for Bolton failing to fulfil two fixtures has failed - www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51020339...but a few weeks ago Macclesfield were deducted 6 points for missing one game, plus another 4 points suspended for a second game. Meanwhile Bolton continue to recruit players - www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51012129 - and all the media are transfixed on their 'plight'! No wonder the fans don't have any respect for the decisions of those in charge.

Surely they'll need close to playoff form to turn this around anyway now?

Absolutely disgraceful that them borrowing a sum of money allowed them to remain when Bury's potential new owners actually had cash/credit available; all that is wrong with the modern game encapsulated in one football club

Not sure about that, they are signing player's, but they are not all good. One was on loan to Southend and was sent back and the other yesterday was a non league player. They might turn out to be good player's, but if we signed them fans would be moaning.

Here may be an unpopular opinion. Yes both Macclesfield and Bolton missed games but its the circumstances behind the reasons why is important and has an effect on the punishment.
Macclesfield missed a game due to a players strike. Wages were not being paid to players and staff and therefore the players decided to strike.
Bolton missed a game as they had played 5 games in 2 weeks with their u18 team and there are rules about the use of u18 players and the amount of games they can play in a week. Something like 1 game a week allowed.
Therefore the reason why Bolton missed their game was down to the EFL's doing in my opinion and not the fault of Bolton. The EFL allowed the club to start the season knowing full well there was a rule with usage of u18 players. They can't then give them a points deduction for missing a game knowing there was this rule in place. The EFL basically set up Bolton up to fail by allowing them to start the season. The EFL should have blocked Bolton's participation, like the decision they made for Bury.

Fair points cj but it still makes the whole thing, and the actions of those in charge, a catalogue of inconsistency and a mockery resulting in a very non level playing field for all involved

Sometimes player's like that step up, other times that don't. That signing, does not make them a play off team??? Type of player I wouldn't mind us signing, but it would be a gamble.

The EFL should have blocked Bolton's participation, like the decision they made for Bury. But Bolton couldn't even pay the wages hence why they didn't have sufficient players, plus they just called the game off themselves rather than seek the EFL's approval. Bolton should never been allowed to start playing games until they had a squad of senior players on the books, the likes of Wycombe have a 3pts/5 goals advantage just because they played their U23 side, how is that fair? I bet if we played a full U23 side tomrrow night we'd get fined!

Fair points cj but it still makes the whole thing, and the actions of those in charge, a catalogue of inconsistency and a mockery resulting in a very non level playing field for all involved 100% agree. It has been a non level playing field. The inconsistency with EFL decisions to me show how inept or corrupt that organisation is. The fact they forced rules on the micky mouse cup, that we had to play strong squads and not give our own youngsters a chance. Yet in the FA cup, prem club don't take it seriously and play their youngsters. How can a cup such as the micky mouse cup be taken more seriously by those in charge over a cup such as the FA cup, a cup that gets you into Europe and has a prestigious history? Just doesn't make sense to me.
In the Bolton case though, they shouldn't have been allowed to start the season. Simple as that. Think we all agree with that. That would have been consistent with the treatment of Bury. However, somehow they were allowed to remain in our league and as a result they have received punishment for the bad running of their club, by a form of a points deduction at the start of the season. So they have been punished for their predicament that they got themselves in.
The lack of punishment for missing the Doncaster game is very annoying, but I am more annoyed with the EFL for allowing this to happen when they knew the possibility of games being missed as they knew Bolton had a squad full of u18 players and the rules with playing them. How can the EFL force these rules to protect u18s and punish clubs for following those rules? Sounds stupid to me. Bolton could have postponed more games but didn't so they did what they could. Further punishment in a points deduction would be very harsh to me.

A punishment for that should happen but I don't think its fair for the Doncaster game.
I am guessing the punishment that Bolton have received (a fine and a suspended points deduction) was for that missed game vs Brentford. Maybe because it was a while ago and thought an actual points deduction would be harsh? Just guessing here.
