Here may be an unpopular opinion. Yes both Macclesfield and Bolton missed games but its the circumstances behind the reasons why is important and has an effect on the punishment. Macclesfield missed a game due to a players strike. Wages were not being paid to players and staff and therefore the players decided to strike. Bolton missed a game as they had played 5 games in 2 weeks with their u18 team and there are rules about the use of u18 players and the amount of games they can play in a week. Something like 1 game a week allowed. Therefore the reason why Bolton missed their game was down to the EFL's doing in my opinion and not the fault of Bolton. The EFL allowed the club to start the season knowing full well there was a rule with usage of u18 players. They can't then give them a points deduction for missing a game knowing there was this rule in place. The EFL basically set up Bolton up to fail by allowing them to start the season. The EFL should have blocked Bolton's participation, like the decision they made for Bury. Bolton also missed a game for a player's strike, as they were not being paid. Don't see the difference??? Yeah, they should be punished for that game. Maybe the suspended points deduction and fine is the punishment for that game. Maybe it was not a full points deduction because they took so long with actually dealing with that case. Was really 7/8 months needed to figure out a punishment for them? A lot of maybe's here but really if the EFL had the bottle to treat Bolton like they treated Bury, this wouldn't even be a discussion now.

The EFL should have blocked Bolton's participation, like the decision they made for Bury. But Bolton couldn't even pay the wages hence why they didn't have sufficient players, plus they just called the game off themselves rather than seek the EFL's approval. Bolton should never been allowed to start playing games until they had a squad of senior players on the books, the likes of Wycombe have a 3pts/5 goals advantage just because they played their U23 side, how is that fair? I bet if we played a full U23 side tomrrow night we'd get fined! Yep, totally agree. Bolton shouldn't have been allowed to start the season and it hasn't been fair on teams who didn't get the luxury to face the young Bolton side. Like Tranmere for example. They beat Bolton 5-0. If they stay up on goal difference, wouldn't be fair on the relegated team.

I understand the reasons for the Doncaster game, but there was also the Brentford game last season, which went unpunished. I forgot about that game to be honest. Last game of the season wasn't it? A punishment for that should happen but I don't think its fair for the Doncaster game.
I am guessing the punishment that Bolton have received (a fine and a suspended points deduction) was for that missed game vs Brentford. Maybe because it was a while ago and thought an actual points deduction would be harsh? Just guessing here.
There is no excusing it in any form. Anything committed over 7 months ago shouldn’t be punished moving forward? The problem with Doncaster is also how they did it. They didn’t inform the EFL or Doncaster. They just announced it a few hours before kick off. Surely they should have told the EFL in advance of requested it. In fact they actually emailed the EFL to complain (not request) and they said tough luck (according to Parkinson), but they didn’t it anyway - and somehow they get off without punishment? The whole body is a complete farce. Why were Bolton allowed to be reviewed by corrupt bodies, yet everyone else is handed points deductions from the EFL? No words can express my disgust at the EFL tbh

Genuine question, would people support Rovers if they boycotted the Bolton game in protest?
Personally I’d be right behind the club.

Whilst I do feel for their fans I'm desperate to see them relegated at the earliest opportunity. It's the least they deserve.

F*cking diisgrace. F*ck the EFL - absolute tossers To be fair, the punishment was handed out by a panel independent of the EFL and the EFL themselves made the appeal as they felt it was too lenient.
The disparity between the treatment of Bolton and Macc. and previously of Bury is, however, noted.

Most lower league clubs are a few pegs down from Bolton in the Football Leagues eyes and the consequences of doing that would be worse than what Bolton got anyway. We need to stand up to it by contributing to their relegation and doing all we can to stop them getting 3 points off us.

I'd love it if all of L1 ended up doing it

Not completely certain but I seem to remember back in the 60s Port Vale, under Stanley Matthews, got done for some misdemeanour or other whilst, I think it was Arsenal, certainly a 'big' club, did the same thing and escaped without any reprimand.

Like the saying goes 'Life's not fair'. Football's no different, infact a lot of decisions are made with input from people who are on some of the biggest clubs boards (Juventus/Real Madrid/etc.) Just like in any walk of life certain people/clubs are treated differently based on status, most of the time it's financially based, sh**e and unfair but that's how the football world works unfortunately. Look at Qatar, look at FIFA as a governing body, look at all the accusations/investigations into the people at the top of football making the decisions etc. Football's corrupt as hell, from the very top downwards.

...and just to prove how inept those in charge are, former EFL Chief Harvey gets £500k severance in addition to his similar salary for presiding over the debacle of the last 6 years www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51025894..money that could go a very long way in lower league and grass roots football

The EFL were obviously determined to keep Bolton in the league, and were prepared to ignore and/or excuse every rule breach to realise their aim.
Quite simply, Bolton are considered too big with too much history to be allowed to go the way of other clubs.
I wonder how the Premier League would react if one of their number were to spiral into insolvency. I've no doubt they would move heaven and earth to ensure the league remained intact, and do whatever it took the save the affected club.

Yes you are right. The other club was Manchester United. Fairly similar misdemeanour by both clubs if I remember rightly but only PV were punished. UTG!

I may have missed this but why was the decision made by an independent panel and not by the EFL?
I was under the impression that previous decisions was made by the EFL. If that's the case then maybe those teams who has been given deductions from the EFL can seek compensation or can appeal because they may feel an independent body would have been more lenient like in Boltons case.

It was always THE Football League. Absolute shambles.
