Not sure how I feel about this. Over the summer it would have been welcome news but given everything that has happened in the last few weeks I'm starting to worry about a fire sale of the highest earners but only so they can be replaced at low cost by in-experienced youngsters. To give the devil his due he was a key part of the team that got to 4th, but I think we can all see that anything that was achieved by Cogs is to be set fire to and forgotten....

Best of luck to him. I'm sure in a different side he can get his confidence back and start firing in goals again.

Not sure why it suggests we're looking for a fee. I'd imagine its all about the wage bill....

I know some will be opening the champagne but I liked watching him play, can't fault his effort just the goals scored so I suppose this is the right decision!
Good luck and all the best Tom!

For all we know Tom Nichols might have told the gaffer he wouldn't sign a new deal anyway. It's never as clear cut as the press make it out to be.

He's got to be out of contract in the summer too and as well as he's done around the pitch this season is he worth offering a new deal to? Possibly, but on heavily reduced terms. We could undoubtedly get better in....but I'm not confident getting better players in is the chief aim at the moment.

First Big mistake our manager has made, gone right down in my estimation of his abilities

At the end of the day his goal scoring record speaks for itself, maybe suggests we are not worried about upsetting JCH.

Sure he didn't score many goals for us but if he does leave us this January, I'll be sad to see him go.
When all things are said and done he's put in a solid shift over these last couple of years, can't fault the effort or ability that he's shown, it just didn't work out for him in terms of scoring goals.
With six months left on his contract, it's probably best for him and us if he looks for somewhere else to see if he can find his form in front of goal again.

Plays better against lower ranked teams.Really good v Barnet FA Cup and pre season at Kidderminster scored a great header and heavily involved.Perhaps dropping to Div 2 would benefit him but when we signed him he struggled to score even in pre season friendlies.Gosling was skillful too but usually ineffective.Think Tom has been given more than enough opportunities.Deon gone so plenty happening.

I’m gutted it hasn’t worked out for us both. Despite what some have said, I think Tom really did try and there will be nobody more disappointed than Tom himself with how it has ended here. With that goal tally he could not have been offered any more chances though although I’m not surprised he was offered the chances he was by three different managers.
I guess we move on. He should look for a lower league club to restore his confidence and find his ‘scoring boots’ so to speak

Not sure how any incoming player can be much worse than a guy with 4 goals in 93 league games for us. Have to trust Widdrington and Garner on this to find the right replacements.

Really weird feeling. I always thought I'd be happy when this was announced, but I have mixed feelings.
I think we all realise Tom seems like a nice lad who always tried his best for the club and sadly it just didn't work out.
Genuinely wish him all the best & I really hope he drops a level and absolutely tears L2 up

It's a shame. I really wanted him to come good. He's a likeable chap with clear technical ability, works hard and must have historically had a reasonably consistent level of composure in front of goal to notch as many times as he did for Peterborough and Exeter. Every game you hope he'll score and it will start a streak... but it has never quite happened for him here.
At the end of the day; the stats for us will say he is a striker who rarely scores.. I guess it was inevitable he would be moved on eventually.
I wish him all the best

However I guess my worry is not so much that Nichols is going and more that if we are going to be looking more to young players on the cheap that the chances of us ending up with a downgrade on Nichols are high. Goalscorers are rare, everyone knows that. Young goalscorers are rare as rocking horse sh**. Look at the two inexperienced players we have brought in on loan this season as an example. Some have not been impressed by Smith's return so far and Adeboyejo is basically not much more than a warm body. So being able to replace Nichols with a player that fits into our reduced means is going to be a considerable challenge.

It should have been a good fit but wasn’t. Think he has to go somewhere where the price tag and fan expectation is not so much of a burden on him. Guess we’ll see whether GC really meant all those things he said about him last Jan as he should be straining at the leash to take him off our hands if he really did rate him that highly.

Nice bloke, but by his own admission when he joined he was here to score goals, he hasn’t done that.
Not a bad player but in terms of value for money he’s been awful, right thing for us and him is to move on

Good luck to him. It hasn't worked out and he leaves, best for both parties.
