This playing one up top seems to be popular amongst "coaches" at the moment but we are playing it without the necessary ingredients as it reguires three midfielders behind the frontman who can break at speed and support him. To me Barratt looks to be a skilful central midfielder who might be able to pick a pass but a forward he is not. the new winger is exactly that- a fast winger but again a forward he is not so we ended up with JCH up top on his own and the two new players hhaving to spend most of their time chasing around like headless chickens. The thing we need the most costs money and that is a goalscoring partner for JCN or two strikers if he goes. Personally if he goes then I would go for Bogle and Pitman and play Barratt as the attacking midfielder. Ollie, Ogogo and Upson together will see us win few football matches.

Need another couple of striker options as the two loan signings have left, with Nichols told he can also go and Reilly out of his depth.
Then we need a central midfielder that can pick a pass and break the lines. Ogogo, Clarke and Upson are one paced and hardly the most progressive of players.
We could also do with another right back on loan until the end of the season as Little can't be relied upon to stay fit and Kilgour certainly isn't a right back.

One from Ogogo Clarke and Upson is enough in my opinion.
Amazingly enough, Nichols is actually a better option than Reilly.
Barrett doesn't look fully fit yet but maybe he is a bit out of position.

I don't think Barrett has necessarily been played out of position, he just doesn't look fit enough as you intimated and looks to be carrying a few extra pounds of weight.

My take on today :-
Goalkeeper -- Was competent
Back 4 Solid
Midfield Thought Clarke was good , Upson had a very poor game Secombe OK Barrett Still not match fit
Forwards JCH defo needs help. But will cost.
Winger Lad from PNE was pacy and a better option than Rodman
Big Big week for BG -- Needs to offload Nicholls,Bennett & bring in help for JCH.

Nichols is a much better option than Reilly hardly ‘amazingly enough’ is it ? Have you watched Rovers in the last 13 months ?

Unless there's a vast improvement on Tuesday I think I'm thinking of giving next weeks home game a miss as it'll be just another bore feast, surely anybody with any coaching experience can see that JCH isolated upfront on his own is simply not working. Plus why sign Barrett and Mitchell-Lewis when we need a striker and a replacement for Lines not even more midfielders/wingers. The big question is will we score a goal again this season from open play if Garner stays in charge?

What I don't understand is what if TN now decides just to see out the last 6 months of his contract or no other club wants to sign a non scoring striker? Does BG have to accept he's made a wrong decision and start playing him again, or just leave him sat in the stands with Bennett, if so, what's that actually achieving?

Quite an achievement by Reilly to be even worse.

Some great challenges put in by OC but hardly a good performance when he couldn't pass the ball, likewise surely not being fully fit doesn't stop Barrett being able to pass the ball, whilst Ginnelly looked pacy it was Rodman who won the late pen. OK saying offload TN & KB but would you take the risk with either if you were a L1/L2 manager?

One up top may work for clubs higher up the pyramid but for Bristol rovers it's not the way at this moment in time! We need to retain more possession in the opposition's half and with one guy floating around up top almost leaves us a man down. I would love us to play the Brentford way as that's clearly what BG is looking at but it takes time and if hes not careful this group of players and himself as manager wont get the chance given how poor these performances and results are showing.
