There seems to be growing speculation that the Premier League are moving towards creating their own streaming service, similar to Netflix, that would see fans pay a monthly subscription to watch all Premier League games. Obviously this isn’t directly Rovers related but the ramifications could potentially be huge for lower league clubs. Many are calling it the death of lower league football. Thoughts?

It won’t be available in the UK if it does happen. The grip of Sky, BT and their multi billion deals is too strong.

Simon Jordan suggested this a while ago on Talk Sport. Too much of cash cow to ignore and the Premiership is where all the money is.

The death of lower league football happened when the Premiershit was formed. It's just a long, drawn out, painful death.

Reading about this the other day and it seems there is quite a bit of upfront cost to setting this up by the PL and the risk then is that take up may not provide quite as lucrative returns as the current and likely future tv rights deals. We shall see. Can see a European League getting set up before this tbh.

Lower league football was dying in the 80s when disorder in and around the terraces was a common sight, attendances were diminishing and stadiums were falling into disrepair. I’m no fan of the Premier League, there is a lot wrong with it but the lower league football has improved since its inception IMO.
