Good afternoon all. West Enclosure ST holder here and contributor to the Independent Forum. My first time ever on here, so please go easy! Next month, I'm doing Swimathon 2020 and will be swimming 5KM to raise money for Marie Curie and Cancer Research UK. I first did this event 25 years ago when I was fit, had black hair and was not quite as old as Methuselah. Now I'm more fit after 3 months of training, have grey hair, am older than the Himalayas and care about too much. Those of you who know me know that in mid September, completely out of the blue, my Mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer and died 12 days later. To say this was a shock would be an understatement. Mum was 79 and was as far as we were concerned, fireproof and indestructible. She went downhill rapidly and had such gentle, caring, kind professional care in her final few days, which was befitting of such a wonderful woman. Mum never complained, being a Glaswegian, she just got on with it. We think she knew she was ill, but didn't want to worry anyone. Please if any of you have any unusual symptoms, get them investigated!! I would like to raise money to help organisations that can aid in the fight against such pernicious diseases and if any of you good people would like and are able to give anything in support, I would be eternally grateful. Thank you for reading. The link if you want it, is here: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/grant-buckley1964Read more: gasheads.org/thread/8520/shameless-plea-help#ixzz6EbQ1QQ5z

Hi Grant - will log on and donate later. My mum still remembers you from when you lived next door to her in Bris (Harrow Rd.) (assuming you’re the same Grant!).

Another Sunday, another week of training done. Another 17,000 metres this week, topped off with a new fastest time of 1 hour 47 minutes for the 5km today. Somehow 4 minutes faster than before.
More incredibly generous donations this week, many from people I don't even know, which is just amazing. I say it every week: people are fantastic. Thank you!!

Did the official swim last night, 2 days earlier that the revised date, as the pool is now closed. 1 hour 46 minutes, my best time since training started 🙂 This after having done a full distance swim on Thursday night too. My arms, shoulder and back have seized up today!
Thank you once again to every single person, many of who I don't even know, for your messages, support and incredibly generosity. You humble me.
Stay safe good people. UTG.
