I read today that Southend's budget of £3 million is the 8th highest in division slightly lower than ours . One way of generating income is attendances. I know it's a snapshot but budgets would be set on last season attendances. We had the 9th highest crowds but 5 teams who averaged higher have left this division Luton Barnsley Charlton ( promoted ) and Bradford Plymouth ( relegated).
This leaves only 3 teams who averaged higher last season Sunderland Portsmouth Coventry. We can make the assumption Ipswich and Rotherham would be higher but not Bolton from Championship. We could also say Lincoln ( cup runs ) and Mk Dons coming up could be higher. So it could read like
Ipswich Rotherham Sunderland Portsmouth Coventry / Mk Dons ? Lincoln Bristol Rovers Southend If Southend is 8th our must be 6 or 7 ?. That suprised me !!

They've been making significant cut backs so I've heard, and so I'd take what you read with a big pinch of salt. The rest of it is making big assumptions as well, as it doesn't take into account non-matchday revenue, which would put us among the lowest earners in this league, probably alongside Wimbledon, Southend, Rochdale, Accrington etc.

It really is difficult to comprehend that our budget is 6th - 8th highest in the league. If so, it makes our current plight even tougher to accept.

Well considering we were a top half/playoff chasing side the first half of the season and then we appoint someone with no character, no managerial experience and no know how of this league who asks his new players to play a completely different way to what has seen them succeed then it doesn’t seem that hard to comprehend, all we have done is add youth and wet flannels to the squad so it’s easy to see why we have fallen away from where our budget suggest we should be. If the board and fans actually believed in GC after what he did for us then I don’t think we’d be having this debate as we’d be in the top half!

Those Southend numbers are a load of rubbish.
Rovers are about mid-table, maybe lower-ish mid at worst, when it comes to the playing budget.

Also there was an article on Bristol Rovers newsnow very similar with some added bits by Southend Echo. It clearly states Southend budget is 8th . Like I said very suprised given D.C said once ' we were in the bottom bit ' .

Fleetwood and Oxford must have a bigger budget than us if you look at their squads.Probably Gillingham and Blackpool also? We are about slap bang middle I reckon.
