Subbuteo! What an absolute football beaut of a game that was. Got in to it around 89-90 and painted my own Rovers side. Steve Yates stripey white socks with the sock tape , Boris’s ginger hair , Billy oceans Afro ( blueback on his head painted black )Jocks moustache I painted a bit of blood on his boots too. Unstoppable that side was. View AttachmentI could never understand why they also sold “crouching” goalkeepers unless they were intended to be some form of handicap. …and as proof that things were better growing up in the Seventies, my Rovers Subbuteo team regularly thrashed Brazil! 😂

I wonder sometimes if Topper stands in front of a mirror and starts an argument with himself! Roverdrive is right, neither he or anyone else put the subject of the thread down to JB, you can add THD, Josh Barrett, even Billy Bodin to the list among others , thank goodness in Billy's case the gamble paid off , even then we were lucky to get the best from him for a while, his fortunes since he left confirm how lucky we were in that respect! Final Score Roverdrive 1-0 Topper!

Final Score Roverdrive 1-0 Topper! In some respects one could maybe argue we've been unlucky (hear me out). On the one hand, you sign a load of players with a history of injury problems and you only really have yourselves to blame. HOWEVER Billy shows it can sometimes pay off. Given the sheer number we seem to have had, it does seem a little surprising more haven't paid off - Billy's pretty much the only one. In that sense, even though it's obviously a gamble, you do wonder if we've still ended up coming out of it even worse than you'd expect. Perhaps what it does show is you just really shouldn't take the gamble - no matter how appealing; as chances are, far more often than not, you'll end up with egg on your face. I guess if it's a Pay as you Play type deal there's no harm, but contracts - no matter how short - seem to be a costly mistake.

From the Post
"Finley, who has captained Rovers on several occasions this season, has suffered minor knee ligament damage and faces approximately three weeks on the sidelines."

From the Post "Finley, who has captained Rovers on several occasions this season, has suffered minor knee ligament damage and faces approximately three weeks on the sidelines." That's another big loss. Finley's been one of the very few positives so far this season.
On the positive side, the article suggests Sam Nicolson and Luke Thomas are in contention tomorrow and Trevor Clarke is close to a return.

Finley a big loss as he appears to be the only player in central midfield with the energy and legs to get about the pitch.

Our central midfield is now what you call slim pickings. Looks like Westbrook may get a start tomorrow at this rate. I would go 4-3-3 imo.

The posts before I responded to motormouthdrive were suggesting our present injury problems were down to Barton signing older players, given his clear hated of JB I assumed he'd carried on with that view not change the topic back to a long term problem. Given JB now had his own recruitment team and we have basically completely changed the squad what we have been doing historical seems pretty irrelevant, unless we have kept the same medical advisors, which seems pretty unlikely given all the other changes which have taken place. I guess the club will now get the blame as Finley's out following a nasty tackle, which went unpunished, v Swindon?

I noticed in the last year or so we have at least 8 players out every game . For instance yesterday: Jaakkola Little Davis Kelly Matthews Ogogo Ginnelly Russe Barrett J.C.H Reilly out. It's almost natural to have out up to 10 players every single game in a small squad. Is this bad luck or something much deeper ? Old duffers are more likely to get injured than young blokes

I think I’d go: _________Belshaw Hoole__Taylor___Harries__Brown ______Whelan__Martinez Anderson___Evans___Saunders ___________Collins Or: __________Whelan ____Martinez_____Evans Anderson___Pitman___Saunders Either way, let’s just get some more pace, legs & energy into our starting XI for the love of god.
