"I could be a millionaire if I had the money" - NEW BEP blog article available now www.bristolpost.co.uk/BRISTOL-ROVERS-BLOG-G-Gas-millionaire-money/story-24513608-detail/story.htmlIt is often said that in cup games a team near the top of one division will be favourites to beat a team struggling in the league above. The F.A. Cup first round results at the weekend have therefore led to an interesting conundrum, because teams from our division mainly failed against teams higher up the pyramid. I don’t totally understand how you can lose and still be described as playing well and, by some, as deserving to win. Surely it’s like a golfer who is brilliant with the woods and irons, but who can’t putt for toffee, or a darts player who racks up 180s and then misses all his doubles. Apparently we would be top of the league if we scored more goals. Yes, and as Clifford. T. Ward sang: “I could be a millionaire if I had the money." The game of football operates at both ends of the pitch, not just one and no-one deserves to win. You either outscore your opponents and win, or you don’t.

Or at least, if you are unlucky, that is sorted out over a few games. The league table doesn't lie cliche is pretty much true.

Well we are in the playoff places and deep into the season. That's good, I think.
In the end, it's not about how good we are, it's about how we compare with the others. We have our shortcomings, but there are some encouragingly bad teams in this league.

And Woking and Wrexham drew a game in hand last night, which was a good result for us, so we're still 4th.
Every little helps, as Sainsbury's main rivals would say.

And - for all our worries about not scoring, we can also say that we concede very few goals: less than one per game.
0.842 goals per league game, to be fairly precise.

I was always brought up on the fact then when building a team, build from the back.

Ah, brave, sozzled, irascible Haddock - role model for us all.
I imagine he is pointing out the distant heavenly glow of the Gates to League Two... [Cue chorus of singing angels.]
