Over the next few months gaschatters will be self-isolating, and some could well be getting Covid19. If anyone needs stuff, then this is a decent place to get it. Obviously, as far as this forum goes, it will be much easier to help people based in or around Bristol. I know some local groups have already been formed to help out their neighbours, and this is bound to increase over the next few weeks and months. Istm there's no reason not to do this on Gaschat.
So, if anyone needs errands run, groceries fetched, etc, and they aren't able to go out, then they can ask for help on here, and get stuff resolved through PM. I'm happy to deliver stuff around Bristol and I'm sure others will be able to do likewise. So, we can use this thread to arrange such things.
Use this thread to sign in to help. Obviously, no one should feel obliged to help and if you are anywhere near a high risk group or have symptoms, then you should not help, even if you want to.
Also, if we can have one thread free of frivolous banter, then I'd request this, too, thanks.

Oldfield Park, Bath. Will be working from home for 12 weeks now. Can shop for you in Sainsbury's (I believe we had more than Some of the supermarkets in Bristol yesterday), collect prescriptions, run errands, or dog walk. I will also volunteer my daughter to cook meals on wheels (she's very good!) if you have a real need.

I'm confused. Is self isolation for over 70's living alone (without symptoms) solitary confinement? So we can't see anyone and no one can visit us for three months? Apparently we can go for a walk alone. What if two people are doing this in separate houses can't they meet after the two week incubation period has passed? Not clear about all of this?? Can anyone help?

Over 70 - no syptoms - just be careful depending on how well you generally are. This web link is clear and useful - Gov info It has all the current numbers and advice - also 'Local' numbers are interesting ! Looked up Bristol - as of today - 9 positive cases in Bristol - yes 9 ! ( of course that's people so ill they have had to get medical attention and have been tested positive ) But - theres an awful lot of people out there who may have it with no syptoms - and awful lot at home ill and not recorded - so if you are vulnerable don't be too complacent. The next week might be a very different animal !

Thanks Geoff for your reply. This is exactly where the confusion is. I read it as everyone over 70 with symptoms or not and those under 70 with symptoms or are vulnerable should self isolate. It really isn't a clear directive. Once people who self isolate meet one person who hasn't then it increases the spread of the disease lessening the affect of self isolation. Also what about a household with a mix of the above? I have friends where the wife (under 70) works her husband (no symptoms)has COPD he is the carer for her mother (no symptoms) who is 90 and has dementia. In theory she could pass the virus to them by continuing to go out to work.

I live in Clutton in NE Somerset. Any Gasheads needing something around me, if I can get it then I'll try to help! Went to the shops yesterday and it was a struggle to get my weekly stuff, but I'm sure give it a few days and there will be a little bit more order to the chaos at the moment.

To a person they have restricted public interaction to reduce the risk of bringing this bastard home. To the thread. I live in the Forest of Dean area. If anyone is stuck and needs shopping delivered in this area, pm me. Les

Les Thanks Oldie, there are a lot of difficult situations that this throws up, I'm not sure my friend is aware that she could kill all her family members by continuing to work. I'm not sure like many if she wants to face the reality of the situation.

Im confused.. did anyone self isolate when flu was about last year? What a load of bollocks. Well, to try to explain this quite clearly: The Influenza virus kills many thousands each year, but it is caught by millions each year. The death rate of people catching "the flu" is a bit less than 0.1%. Some people receive "flu" jabs which can help to lessen symptoms and give some immunity, some have a partial immunity built-up over preceding years due to catching other strains of the flu. Now CV19, Essentially no one has any immunity. The death rate is currently running at about 4% worldwide (40 times more than "the flu". It could be eminently possible that a large part of the worlds population could catch this. The consequences of a 4% death rate with no population immunity DO NOT BARE THINKING ABOUT! Still think its a load of bollocks? We could theoretically (with the info available at the present time) see 400 Gas heads lose their life, possibly more as we have an older support base. Please do not be blasé with other peoples lives. I'm not "having a go", with this but everyone needs to see what this may mean for our families, friends, colleagues, acquaintances, neighbours. I have already been pretty much isolated for 3 weeks, and have been informed am not required at work for between 12 and 24 weeks, likely to be nearer the 24 weeks. I am quite fortunate as have a good family, but I am destroyed by what this is meaning for some of the people I know and meet at football.

I'm in self isolation with cough, cold, temperature but not feeling too bad. Expect it's just a cold but have to think about others
