Hello folks – Stoke fan here in peace. I work on the ‘Duck’ fanzine and I’m planning a different type of article for our next issue – out whenever something approaching normal matchdays return to our lives once more. I aim to ask supporters of several clubs 5 questions about their perceptions of Stoke City in order a to create a big feature article “Us and Them.” For the following questions, feel free to answer in varied depth/ brevity but a couple of sentences at least for each is ideal: 1. Generally how do you see Stoke City the club – a rival? Non-entity? Certain type of club? Disdain? Admiration? Pity?! As a fixture – is it of general appeal? 2. Are there any Stoke players/ teams that have made an impression on you over the years? 3. Are there matches between your team and Stoke you recall hating/ loving? 4. In home / away matches, what have you made of the Stoke support? Any particular memories? 5. The Victoria Ground/ The New One – what did/ do you make our of our home ground(s)’ the grounds? Any particular experiences or impressions? Given our reputation over the years, this could be a risk but then again, it would be great if I could glean a diverse range of honest/ diverse/ cutting/ funny/ serious or even complimentary views. If you can be arsed, thanks for your time. Take care of yourselves, Lee Hawthorne orfyduckmag

Live in Eccleshall in Staffordshire . You will notice the Staffs Logo in my Avatar.Victoria Ground which was demolished a million years ago was far better than anything we have ever owned.Stoke as a City in no way compares to Bristol, with much higher Crime, social problems and unemployment and yet the Blue half of Bristol is still.sadly,in the Dark ages. as far as a stadium is concerned. Leek Town near you is about where we are at.You will think I'm joking but we have three 'stands' which are actually just tents Your Chairman is a top bloke and the Bet 365 is amazing .Used to watch ;Banksy,Greenhof,Conroy,Richie et all but the Gas are my first love despite the fact we don't even have a training ground. Remember when we won 4-1 at the Britannia 1999 with Cureton scoring three and Jason Roberts ripping you apart. Not long afterwards we were in the Conference and you were in the Prem'. Pulis of-course is ex Gas P.S They don't sell Oatcakes in Bristol!!!
Hudson and George Eastham were as good as it gets.Dennis Smith who sadly managed another Bristol Team lived near me at Ashley and was an amazing Stoke legend. Worst player I ever saw was Stuart Jump who amazingly Palace signed.Anyway,Staffordshire is my adopted home.I was in Staffs Police for may years and when Rovers went 4-1 up at the Brittania,I was stood up cheering and some foul mouthed Stokie swore at me calling me a Bristol B-----D.I took out my warrant card and he apologised.I had him ejected and told him if only we could play rubbish like Stoke every week. I suspect he was laughing when we were later 4 divisions apart! P.S Matt Lee who does Radio Stoke's Breakfast show is a Bristolian but like fellow prenter John Akers supports Argyle.
NB.Just to explain to my fellow Bristolians ,the word Duck in the title is something Stokies suffix every sentence with just as we add 'Mind'. Duck is a term of endearment however but up here they pronounce Book, as BOOOOOOOOK and cook as COOOOOOOK and Look as LOOOOOOOOOOK.They also call busses Buzzzes.Weird.My Mrs is a Potter and she reckons WE talk funny!!!!!!!!!!

League cup at Eastville - gave us a bit of a hiding Made up for it with Cureton and Roberts at yours 4. In home / away matches, what have you made of the Stoke support? Any particular memories? League cup at Eastville - gave us a bit of a hiding on the Tote One of our fans attacking your gobby keeper at the Mem Your disgraceful behaviour at Port Vale in the tin pot cup - I think you should have had a ground closure over that 5. The Victoria Ground/ The New One – what did/ do you make our of our home ground(s)’ the grounds? Any particular experiences or impressions? Skoke city? a traditional proper football club against whom Rovers have a decent record, Rovers shading it on the pitch, sure the great Stanley played for them and have to mention England's greatest ever keeper of course ,you had that Banksy ,Bristol has its own Banksy, shame that though no doubt a great artist, as far as i know he is rubbish at football! Rovers played a part in Stokes claim to fame, league cup winners 71/72, beat Rovers 4-2 in quarters, despite that pleased they won final as it gave Eastham the medal his ability deserved, another player who springs to mind is Thorne, scored hattrick in 3-3 thriller around the turn of the century. We have the pullis connection and i could never understand wanting him out , he took Stoke to great heights and kept them there by getting the best from what he had ,before fans started believing they should be doing better, crazy decision! any way no axe to grind with Stoke City and can take or leave them, we are now some way apart and wish we had a ground like the Britannia, thought fans created great atmosphere there in the Pulis era and had the place really rocking, plenty of goals in our past fixtures ,ave over 3 per game i think with just one or two 0-0 s, looks like O'Neil will keep you up but please do some thing about that nasty anti Brit Mclean ,despicable character AND SHOULD BE SENT PACKING!, apart from that good luck!

Take care of yourselves, Lee Hawthorne orfyduckmag No offence to you personally mate, but in my opinion I view football fans as trying to make themselves seem different “our fanbase doesn’t do that” Etc when really football fans are footballs fans, every club has idiots who tarnish the club name. No team’s fans are inherently special or different from any other.......except for Stoke. Honestly, you lot really are a completely different breed. One thing that sticks out is the hate for Aaron Ramsey, I struggle to think of anyone else who despises an opposition player for suffering a near career ending injury like you seem to do. The vitriol on your forum is also staggering, I’ve seen some things in my time but your oatcake forum has taught me swear words I never even knew existed. Then there was the kicking off at what was essentially a glorified reserve game in the tin pot cup at Port Vale. It’s just my opinion, but of everything I have seen and heard in football I do think Stoke has a seriously nasty fanbase, not so much in terms of hooliganism, but in terms of parochial attitude. Sorry!

Sorry! Blimey 365 tell us what you really think.... not sure they’re any worse than others. Go on any forum and there’s a nasty % who leave you speechless. Have you looked at Sunderland’s? Btw, don’t disagree with much of the rest. We all have our idiots, we all have our own individual idiosyncrasies but none of us are inherently different from others as you say. (Except of course those hillbillies south of the river... now they are different!😉) UTG!

The game I hate was 16.12.2000. Ian Holloway picked 4 CBs to keep Peter Thorne quiet who generally played well against Rovers; he scored a hat trick.

Anyway I got nicked and kept in the cells till gone ten, course next train to London was about one am,met another lad who had also been nicked and we got to kings cross about 3am, walked to his house in the east end and sleep on the sofa, had to go back to Hanley court and cough up a ton.My stoke mate also talked me into going to Norwich about 79/80 for first game of the season, Norwich won five nil, happy days.

Stoke City means only one thing to me. You broke my heart when I was 12 (the day Paul Randall signed for you). Other than that well run club

The only game I remember is the one where it was only £5 for the home fans to get in but Stoke charged full price for away fans. Our director's refused to sit with the Stoke board in protest and Rovers went on to win and the Gasheads singing '£5 and you're still ripped off'

Yes, I remember that game well, just to prove a point I got a Stoke fan to get me a £5 ticket next to away bit and then told a steward I was a Rovers fan and wanted to go in with my fans, I showed him proof a Rovers fan and reluctantly I was let in! And to cap it all off we won!

I remember this classic... Wally Walters was the man!
If you were there, you might remember it for other reasons, but if you can find time to enjoy footage...... what a brilliant goalkeeping display!!!
Was that the last time we had a goalkeeper with a 'tash?
