This week, Jack is joined my Mets and Max to discuss the future of the 2019/20 season, and the financial impact on Rovers. They cover the latest proposals from the EFL to form a group of representatives from each league, and discuss whether a blanket 20% pay reduction for players is a realistic outcome. They also talk about the Al-Qadi ownership, and the ongoing dispute with the Supporters Club, who had it's complaint to the EFL swiftly rejected last week. This episode is sponsored by Kahuna Flooring. Kahuna Flooring can supply and fit all types of flooring for your home or workplace. They come to you with a sample selection service and offer deals on supplied & fitted carpets, vinyls, LVT (such as Karndean and Amtico), engineered wood and more! Some interesting discussion on what the transfer market might be like (when it finally re-opens).. Clubs will have to be a bit wiser with their dealings in the transfer market - so maybe we won't see huge fees attached to lower league prospects and so the transfer cash won't trickle down the leagues. Many clubs will have to release out-of-contract, higher earning players and rely more on youth and free transfers of unproven, lower-league players.
It will be really interesting to see what happens. I wish there was a mode on Football Manager where you could replicate this cash-flow scenario from the top to the bottom and see how it plays out in a war gaming exercise...
The other interesting point re: transfer spending was the one brought up about clubs that have furloughed staff (especially high earning playing staff.. eg.Sunderland) versus those that haven't. Quite an ethical dilemma here as they haven't broken any rules, but will have taken cash from the Government when other clubs have absorbed the financial hit instead. Money vs Morals (or fear of bad PR)..? But will certainly give those clubs an edge in future transfer dealings.. but will they be less attractive to players knowing how they could be treated in the future? (probably not)
