Similar to my other thread.
Who have we signed that you thought have faired better than you thought they would?
Bodin and Matty Taylor for me in recent years. Browner Mansell Lines in his 2nd stint - didn’t think he’d have such a big impact. Lumley Sweeney for his first few months Carayol looking back, remember he either scored or assisted the majority of the goals in our 5-1 and 7-1 wins against Accy and Burton? Can’t think of a lot of others though.

Wally for me. I thought his legs had gone until I saw him rip the pants of full backs and whip em in. Love you Mr Everton Walters.

JCH was probably the one striker I really thought when he signed 'meh'. And that's probably being polite. Same with Ogogo tbh, I wasn't too happy. Oh how I was so so so wrong. Such a shame Hare got injured, but in his short stint I'd say he was much better than I was expecting as well

Dave Pritchard.. Signed from Telford and was the best right back I've ever seen at rovers.

Here's my 1 to 11 of players who exceeded expectations:
1.Brian Parkin-replaced nigel martyn on a free and became a gas legend.
2. Dave Pritchard-signed from Telford and was best right back I ever saw at rovers.
3. Lee Brown-released by QPR reserves and always gave 100% and got us promoted.
4. Craig Hinton- emergency signing from kiddy by osman and broadbent and had a great career.
5. Billy Clark-known as the judge because he spent so long on the bench for half his gas career playing second fiddle to twentyman and Yates. When Yates left, he formed the best centre back partnership we've had since Warren and pitt with Andy tillson. Phenomenal defender. He just edges out Mark McChrystal..
6. Marcus Browning - not exactly a 'signing' as he came through youth system but was a striker for the reserves, going nowhere until big mal saw something in him and converted him into a central midfielder. Had a great career.
7. Mark Walters-was an old man at the end of his career when he came to us and we all thought he was winding down. How wrong we were, what a player!! Remember stoke away!!!
8. Stuart Campbell- Signed from Leicester reserves and became our captain fantastic under trolls. Just edges out Gary waddock.
9. Andy Rammell- much travelled striker who was in his late 30s when we signed him and his goals kept us in the football league.
10. Gareth Taylor-came to us as an injury prone defender from Southampton youth team and got converted by John ward into one of the best target man Centre forwards we've ever had. Just edges out Barry hayles who although came to us from non league, came with a big reputation and we all expected big things from baz when we signed him.
11. Tony Pounder-signed from non league Weymouth and took to league football like a duck to water. Was lightening quick and a brilliant winger for us. Remember him giving Rob Jones of Liverpool a torrid time when we played them in the FA cup. Honer able mention though goes to ex Bath city winger Andy Sandell who was pretty decent.

Jock Alexander.. Freebee from Cyprus.. Andy reece (not a great player but had a long career with us).. Couple of cracking loan signings who we couldn't get permanently would include Jamie Clapham, Craig Armstrong and Damien Matthew. The one that really springs to mind though is matt lockwood. Lovely left foot and birds nest hairstyle to boot!! I think he was ollies first signing from QPR youth team on a free and was a central midfielder. Ollie converted him into an attacking left back and he was a revalation. He left us for Leyton orient I think and was one of the best full backs in the lower divisions for years. Shame we didn't keep him.

Jaakkola. Looking at his playing history before us I wasn't sure if he'd be any good but he's certainly exceeded my expectations so far.

For me its mark little. I was expecting him to be unfit for the whole season but he has actually played about 8 games so well done mark. Also great work by coughlan/widdrington in bringing him.
