I hope Ollie does stay. I think he would acknowledge his season has been disappointing. He has had a difficult season, not helped by some time out injured, but he is still an experienced, committed player that offers a lot more than some on this forum seem to recognise. He is not the creative midfileder we are seeking, but he never was that type of player, so it is unfair to blame him for that lack of creativity in a midfield trio consisting of Clarke himself, Upson, and Ogogo, which through necessity proved a solid foundation. But if we were to lose Abs and Upson for the same game (as has happened this season) then suddenly our midfield does not seem so strong. And yes, sentiment does come into it - I know it shouldn't, but for me it does matter! It is great seeing a local lad come through the ranks and I would love him to add another 200 appearances for The Gas (through improved, and consistently significant performances). I do not think Ben Garner plans on using that trio together anyway, but will look to use one or two of them as the solid base with Josh Barrett and Cameron Hargreaves featuring more regularly. I think those loan signings of Ginnelly and Mitchell-Lawson are an indicator of not only the type of player, but also the style of play that Ben will be striving to achieve. And to achieve that he will need the likes of Ollie to break up play, win the ball, and hopefully, lay off a simple pass to the more creative or pacier players to attack with. Regardless, I do hope Ollie has been offered a genuine contract, and not one too poor for him to accept just to say it was his decision to leave, because I do believe he deserves the respect of Ben and the Club. And us Gasheads too! UTG! Problem is if we are restricted to 20 pros next season can we afford 3 DCM's of similar ability plus Russe, or would the money better be spent on an ACM or No 10 we desperately need to sign. OC's contract has just come to the end at the wrong time for him if he did want another one at Rovers.

If he goes, he goes.. We won't be poorer without him.. The biggest compliment I can give him is that he's better than Ed upson.. If he stays then he'd be a decent squad player and if he goes.. Oh well.

Ollie is about to sign a new contract. Just been informed by my neighbours sister who lives in Dublin that she read on the Partick Thistle forum that a fan on there heard from his friend a Celtic fan it was all agreed. Can't confirm this though as Nickola Sturgeon has stopped all internet links with England as she thinks it might interfere with Independence.

It's a fair point. IF we are restricted to a squad of twenty, it would reinforce the difficulties of trying to re-build a squad when you already have a group of players under contract. The Retained List is simply a list of players still under contract, and affects those contracts that are able to be offered to for existing players whose contracts have terminated, and importantly, those for new players coming in.
It is not necessarily the list of all the players the manager chooses to work with. Hence, Sercs will move on, Kyle Bennett stays.

I have filled the car with petrol in readiness … happy to drive him wherever he wants to go!! Two seasons of absolute dross and nonsense - needs to move on!! Blimey! I wouldn’t want to be sat in that car. Talk about atmosphere. 😉 UTG!

Wouldn’t be overly concerned if he left. We still have Hargreaves and Russe who can do his job equally well if not better. Have to agree. Wouldn’t be upset if all the regulars in midfield left except ogogo.

The question then becomes has BG identified players he wants to try and move on the likes of Little, Leahy, Ogogo, Upson & Bennett, or is he content to work with the full retained squad?

Not what I said. I agree with the not bothered about Olly. I hope they can both kick on for us but would love to see a completely different midfield set up next season. Rather Ed Upson leave than Olly.

When Barrett joined, I was under the impression that he had not had regular competitive game time for quite a while. I might be wrong about that, but he didn't look match fit anyway and he was trying to play catch-up. The difference now is that nobody is match fit so it ill be a level playing field. I thought that he looked like he would be a really useful addition.

If we can get that sorted then there is obviously a talented player in there as he has demonstrated at U23 level and in the Republic of Ireland international age groups.

My point was what if BG's signings are all like Barrett was last season, it's anyone's guess which Barrett will turn up this summer, hopefully it's one who's learnt his lesson.

Daly looked like he could be a good player at this level, once he comes back from fitness. Harris started the last game against Sunderland and we won and kept a clean sheet. So why just talk about Barrett, like he's the only player he signed?? Think we all know Barrett is a gamble. If he had the fitness, he wouldn't be playing at this level. Hopefully he's taken this time to sort out his fitness. Every manager makes bad signings, so unfair just to highlight one player.

Perhaps it's because Barrett's a midfielder and the other two are a striker and defender? Anyway BG's offered OC a contract so it seems he agrees with me that he's worth keeping at the right price as he'll be hard to replace.
