Mets is joined by Matt from GillsInTheBlood to talk about Max Ehmer. The 28 year old is Gillingham's captain and a free agent as we record with Gillingham not yet giving him a new deal. Bristol Live reported that Rovers were close to securing his services, but Steve Evans has come out and said he is confident that Max will sign a new deal when it is offered. Matt puts in a glowing review for Max and he sounds exactly the kind of player that Rovers need to fill the boots of Millwall Tone. Fingers crossed that Rovers get their man! listen.gascastpodcast.co.uk/276671/4416059-scout-report-max-ehmer-ft-gillsintheblood

Steve Evan's said he won't offer a new contract until he knows when the 20/21 season starts Presumably he would have to hang around not getting paid, then.

Any club willing to offer contracts now should be able to attract the best players then. In the current climate, if it were me, I'd jump at the chance of securing mine and my family's future. You don't want to be left on the shelf in this transfer window!

Well i thought under garner we were moving in a new direction. We need to try and sign players who are playing at much better teams than gillingham when they are 28 imo. Is he better than kilgour, menayese and harries? Because they need to be playing not watching a 28 year old who has already peaked. Are you now against young players pirate? If so maybe quit the endless videos on here about them?

Who says we aren't moving in a different direction? So far Garner has signed a 20-year-old and two 21-year-olds on permanents. I've already said time and time again I'm not personally fussed about ages of players if they can improve us, but it is nice to have a balance of youth and experience, which we have. I'd say Ehmer is hitting his peak years, rather than "peaked". There isn't one size fits all, but it is usually thought a centre half will reach his prime years between the age of 27-30. Ehmer is 28. And a captain. Having lost a leader in Craig the signing seems ideal. And anyway I'll post what I want when I want, thanks all the same.

Why have garner as manager if were just going to sign the usual? much better managers available for those types than garner. Garner is only a viable option if he brings in and improves young players. Post anything you like but harries, menayese and kilgour need to be playing right now not watching a 28 year old play who has never made it anywhere but at gillingham. Why not back your own ideas and promote youth?

The players you mentioned can improve further by playing alongside a player of Ehmer's quality.

You do need experience at CB.
Players like Ugo Ehiogu and Paul McGrath had footballing brains even when the legs had gone, and were still doing the business long into their twilight years.
I wouldnt be confident going into the new season with what we have at CB
