Welcome to the Gas Josh!
Really exciting signing, this is exactly the sort of signing we need in terms of our new approach to sustainability. He's done well at L2 and now L1 is his next step. Fingers crossed he'll be a success and help us to the next level or we can eventually get a good fee for him. That is obviously the strategy we're aiming for from now on.

His video on signing seems to suggest he is Liam Sercombes replacement not a defender More like Ollie Clark’s replacement I’d guess Think you re spot on looks a great signing, testament to Ben whilst some on here dont rate him obviously impressed josh.

On the face of it a good signing & a three year deal which is some commitment nowadays - must be highly rated. Welcome to the Club Josh.

Always nice to read positive comments of a player you’ve just signed from fans of their previous clubs and there’s plenty about Grant from Plymouth fans. He seems to fit the bill of what Garner wants, young, ambitious, technically gifted. Welcome to the club Josh.

Exciting news to wake up to on a Saturday morning - I like the cut of his jib in the interview, sounds like a grounded young man.
Welcome Josh, and well done Ben.

Wonder if our new assistant manager had any influence with this?

Welcome Josh, Rovers done well to get him if Plymouth were interested to as there infrastructure would seem to be far superior to ours at moment, Josh must believe in Bens vision for the club, good to see a signing get unanimous approval on here, makes a change!

More like Ollie Clark’s replacement I’d guess Think you re spot on looks a great signing, testament to Ben whilst some on here dont rate him obviously impressed josh. lots of comments regarding midfield. He signed for Plymouth as a defender and was switched to "midfield". As I see it as midfield the player plays in front of the defence, behind the attack and inside the wing? So there now seems to be a defence midfield, attack midfield and holding midfield? So does that mean an attacking midfielder is no good at defending and vice versa and a holding midfielder is no good at either? Or simply one is more able at attacking or defending so is not a complete midfielder? So Booby Moore Captain World Cup 66 Player was what a "defensive, attacking holding midfielder. Don't see that label attached to any player recently! Perhaps the term has creeped into the football language based on instructions from the manager based on the strengths of the opposing team? I vividly remember watching a certain struggling team in the old 1st Div whose left full back who was a fine player but if he collected the ball from the goal line would put his head down and easily sprint past all opposing players until his view saw the half way line and then he would immediately kick the ball any where or pass back to his keeper and immediately return to his full back position. I don't ever remember him go over the halfway line even if the space in front was completely empty of opposing players. Surely a managers tactics not the player ability or attacking v defensive position label?

I think the "Defensive Midfielder" became more prominent in the late 90's. France winning the 98 World Cup, with Didier Deschamps known as the "Water Carrier" was the first time I really saw it, since then they've also produced Claude Makelele(Whose had a role named after him) and N'Golo Kante, 2 of the best to play in that position. Every successful team over the last 20 odd years have had it, whether it be France, Barcelona & Spain, Chelsea, Man City or Liverpool. It's now one of the most important positions in modern Football.

Quite speedy too by all accounts. Started off badly at Home Park until switched to DCM

His video on signing seems to suggest he is Liam Sercombes replacement not a defender He was moved to a central midfield role at Plymouth but I thought that was more as a holding CM rather than attacking CM, which would make sense given he was playing as a centre back. Anyway Grant seems the most promising youngster we've signed since we returned to the league? One we already know should be able to cope at this level. Think we've signed a few promising youngsters since Garner has come in. You can certainly see what we are trying to do now. Daly, Barrett, Harries and now Grant. Heard mixed reviews regarding Grant, but he's young and still learning. Think all four have the potential to play higher. Some Palace fans didn't want Daly to leave and he's still only 20. We all know what Barrett's problem is, hopefully he will come back fitter than ever.

Pretty certain we've always had a DCM in our line up in recent times with Lines, who could never tackle, our ACM playing alongside OC etc, England always had problems trying to fit two ACM's in Gerrard and Lampard into central midfield. We just need an exciting ACM now to finally replace Lines.

Asked a journalist friend who is a big Muff fan about him and this was his response.
Depends where he plays. Defensive midfield is where he had his best games, not a bad touch, decent range of passing. Was awful at Centre back, too light weight and can get knocked off the ball by more physical players. Good enough for Lg1 tho.
Lowe deployed him as a defensive midfielder and he was much better there.
