Then why is Luton airport called www.london-luton.co.uk ? Although I do think the OP was talking nonsense! As far as Wigan I thought the suggestion was if Wigan finished in the bottom 3 after the 12 pts deduction then it would apply this season, if not, next season? It was renamed London Luton to emphasise that it is close to London and serves London. It is not "in" London. Next Topper will be asking why London Oxford International Airport is called what it is and wondering if Kidlington or Oxford are in London too.

If we are redrawing city boundaries to include the airports they are served by, we might as well incorporate a big swathe of North Somerset into the City of Bristol to include "Bristol" Airport

Why? London club! They always get much more exposure. Same in cricket and rugby. And these teams plus the Big 6 Usually get decisions, referees and VAR, in their favour compared to others? They may currently play good football but so do other teams? Wigan for example look a good bet for top 6 next year if they don’t get deducted points? Which now seems even more likely as 2 London clubs are stuck there now, Charlton and Luton with one likely to join Barnsley and Hull. I will not be surprised if league wait until relegation concluded and positions clarified on Wednesday and then make a decision about Wigan. If Charlton or Luton occupy the 3rd relegation place, then I don’t think things will go well for Wigan (who are much smaller than the Bees) unless they have 12 points difference. Luton will probably escape with typical London “luck”? Just like Wombles survived by GD and Wycombe made playoffs this season although they were dropping down table? And Wycombe are a small team; but a London team! Most of our fans also see them as a “cheating” team? Bar Jacobsen who I really liked and wish we had still kept with Danny? Anyway, Bees blew it today?! What an opportunity presented by WBA to them over last few weeks and yesterday. WBA look pretty ineffective apart from Pereira. Sawyers and Ignaida lose the ball far too often because they seem to think they are more skilful than opposing players? Austin was “dreadful” when he came on yesterday; every involvement of his ended in a foul? Leeds deserve to go up! UTG Luton are from Bedfordshire, and Wycombe are from Buckinghamshire. Neither of which are in London. Close to London, yes. I know exactly where they are; I live equidistant from them in London. Just like I regard Watford and Reading as London clubs. In terms of the 3 main team sports, I regard them as being “London” teams because they get preferential treatment in terms of TV coverage, etc.. probably because broadcasters probably expect more people to watch if in same area? I think Sky and BBC do this a lot? If there is a London derby on in lower leagues, chances are it will be covered by Sky! It would be nice to see a table, say over the last 10 seasons, of each league below Premiership and each live broadcast by each broadcasting station and see how West Country clubs compare with London ones? Just like Londoners in the past regarded Brighton as their seaside place / beach and it is ~100 miles / 1+ hour away from London. Personally, I view clubs in the lower leagues and their exposure to live broadcasts heavily determined by their “closeness” to London? Maybe travel expenses and distance from London may also come into play although it does not seem to be a factor when Surrey are playing a 1- dayer in Brighton; high probability Sky will broadcast a visit to to the seaside? How many times have Glos / Somerset been shown live on Sky in recent years compared to the 5 London counties plus Hants? And success does not seem to be a factor. I suppose the best way to promote Rovers is to get us in the Championship; City seem to get a lot of live TV coverage probably because the other West Country teams are lower league and not being shown except in Cup matches eg. when Bromley (London) played us in cup, Sunderland, etc. or in playoffs. Still paying my Sky Sports subscription to watch though! Bring on iFollow for live league matches based on league as well as one’s own team ie. can watch ALL L1 matches live for one subscription only! Then I will definitely subscribe to L1 L2 ! Clubs may even generate more money than current broadcasting? UTG

Next Topper will be asking why London Oxford International Airport is called what it is and wondering if Kidlington or Oxford are in London too. The point I am making is not physical geographical distance but how these teams are perceived by broadcasters and therefore how I see them and the “bias” there. I grouped them as London because they get the same preferential treatment as London teams in my view. And as one person said above, perception by aligning with London (London Luton) and its “catchment” area is always a plus for broadcasters? And it does work; I would rather watch Bath or Hereford or Yate or Exeter than Orient or Bromley or Gillingham or .... because I have a West Country “interest”. UTG Up The West Country

I knew it was a mistake to get rid of our London office. We’d be on sky 24/7 if we had kept it.

Although I do think the OP was talking nonsense! As far as Wigan I thought the suggestion was if Wigan finished in the bottom 3 after the 12 pts deduction then it would apply this season, if not, next season? Yes with regard to Wigan. It may take the EFL some time to investigate / unravel what happened at Wigan and how and whether the club should suffer as a result? Did it happen because of a large scale relegation bet on them? If so, with Wigan needing to win their last game to stand a chance of being 12 points away from relegation, if EFL deducts the points this season then the gamblers will win? Is that in the best interest of football and Wigan? The buyout was approved by the EFL; maybe they should also include themselves in any investigation as well and see if they were at fault? Maybe an EFL Independent inquiry? If the result is unfavourable to Wigan, maybe they should appeal (a la Man City) but Wigan are a small, non-London club and finance may be a factor but they could then save themselves in the Championship? It will be an interesting decision by the EFL. I would suggest and congratulate the EFL if before the last game on Wednesday, they decided that any points deduction would take place next season thus giving the club a chance to survive next season (as per Bolton)? That way all the Championship relegation battlers know where they stand BEFORE the last game is played! We Gone We Come? UTG

I lived in Brentford for 31 years. The games we played there were great for me. Leave home 2.55pm, return home at 17.45pm. One evening as I drove home from work I was getting out of the car and my missus said this "Paul, Roman Abramovich is in the garden."Now it's not often you hear that, but it was true. I lived in Mafeking Avenue, an "L" shaped road behind the road leading to Griffin Park. Lots of people thought you could walk down the long bit of the road to the corner and cut through to the ground, but no you just cut through in to the gardens. A minute later "Roman" came past me with 2 very large gentlemen (one each side). At that time Chelsea played their reserve games at Griffin Park.
Another memory was the day they played Portsmouth at home. I was on my way to the high street, and there at the end of the road was a minibus full of Pompey fans. Now I dont like being late to games, but it was 8am. they said they were going to "make a day of it". In Brentford? Yes they said. Good luck with that I thought
