Bristol Post now reporting this too a few hours after axegas. Which was 4 hours after Jame246 posted the rumour on the "Sam" thread!! gaschat.co.uk/post/636171As was discussed on that thread are we really going to be looking to recruit a player only being looked at by other L2 sides and, you can only, assume not considered up to L1 football by both Swindon & Pompey?

Talking about Portsmouth..
Ex Pompey manager Paul Cook has left his job at Wigan. I think he might be going to City.

Now odds on favourite so it's probably more than "might", seems a bit of a random choice as not really achieved anything at Championship level.

Famous last words, but I'd be much happier if they appointed Cook.
Hughton would be a real statement of intent and would certainly attract some quality to City. I'm certain he'd push them into the play offs. Cook is unproven, within reason, and it wasn't long ago that Wigan fans wanted him out.
Fingers crossed here tbh.

No but he has a very good managerial record to be fair to him and likes to play attractive football. Hes done well with Wigan and would have better backing at City.

The four signings made so far all look really good acquisitions, and Jonah Ayunga if he comes looks like he might be a rough diamond who with a bit of polishing could become a real force. However Adam May does not appear to be a potential signing that will enhance the squad

It really is impossible to know if he can take a Championship team to the next level. He seems the cheap option compared to Hughton.

I'm hopeful things will go well.

I'm hopeful things will go well. It is a good record, especially in L1 & 2. But it must be noted that if not for some amazing end of season form, they’d have been in a relegation fight, with fans calling for his head before Covid stopped the season. LJ was also supposed to be a great manager who’d do well for them. The point I’m making is that Cook is unproven for what they want. It’s a gamble, could work out great or could fail for them. Hughton has a track record for that division, there are only a few managers IMO who have the reputation to nearly guarantee to get you out the Championship.. whilst Hughton might not be that manager yet, he’s a close to it as they come

Cook has proven to be an excellent manager, but I wonder if he's a bit more suited to the "siege mentality" style of driving his teams forward? That's probably doing him a disservice, but it's just the way he comes across to me sometimes.
Either way, if City appoint Cook or Hughton, both are very good managers and should do well for them. For that reason I hope that City won't be a "good fit" for either of them!
